The Role:
Operating from within Water Resource Management, South Region, you will be leading the delivery of compliance related functions that contribute to achieving sustainable management and use of the Region’s water resources, consistent with Departmental frameworks, policies and priorities, in partnership with stakeholders.
The locations for the role are Bundaberg or Brisbane. Bundaberg is the tenth largest city in Qld, is situated along the southern bank of the Burnett River. The city is sited on a rich coastal plain, supporting one of the nation’s most productive agriculturalregions. Brisbane is Qld’s largest city and lies at the centre of South East Queensland. The central business district is situated within a peninsula of the Brisbane River and about 15klm from Moreton Bay. Brisbane is a global centre for research and innovation.
Key Accountabilities:
• Provide direction and leadership to others to ensure effective delivery of the department’s regulatory strategy and regulatory responsibilities.
• Apply the provisions of the Water Act 2000 and Planning Act 2016 to achieve consistent and effective regulatory outcomes.
• Provide high level advice to the Manager, Compliance and the Regional Management Team on regulatory policy application and regional implementation, including compliance requirements from the Inspector General of Water Compliance in South Region.
• Contribute to the implementation of state-wide regulatory and compliance policies and priorities.
• Lead regional compliance activities including planning and implementing programmes to monitor compliance in the regulated water community.
• Prepare submissions, briefing notes and contribute to the development of legislation and associated policy and guidelines.
• Manage regulatory service delivery and associated change in expectations.
• Manage finances and human resources to ensure equity, ethical conduct and a high standard of health and safety for staff.
About You:
• Previous experience as an authorised officer under the Water Act 2000 or other legislative frameworks would be well regarded.
• Experience communicating regulatory requirements and engaging with affected parties, of varying demographics and industry backgrounds is highly regarded.
• Experience in the use of any information system reporting tools.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills to represent the department and region in a wide range of forums.
• Travel away from the base centre may be required.
