What we need:

Ohio EPA Environmental Specialist

What we do:

At the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency, our primary goal is to protect the environment and public health. We do this by ensuring compliance with federal and state environmental laws.

What we need YOU to do:

The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency wants you to be our newest environmental specialist in the Division of Drinking and Ground Waters (DDAGW), working at our Southeast District Office in Logan.

Ready to join the team?

As Ohio EPA’s environmental specialist, you’ll complete ground water contaminant delineations and modeling in support of the Source Water Assessment and Protection (SWAP) Program assessments of public water systems. You’ll determine site accessibility and proximity to known contaminant sources to an intake, compile data from databases, conduct site visits, and develop corresponding reports. You’ll provide technical assistance and advice to local officials, public water system operators, consultants, and other Ohio EPA personnel on Ohio’s SWAP activities.

You’ll conduct work funded under the DDAGW’s Clean Water Act (CWA) 106 grants, including providing geologic and hydrogeologic evaluation of wastewater sites to determine the potential for ground water contamination, reviewing monitoring data, and assessing whether a discharge of dredged or fill material could affect sources of municipal drinking water. You’ll review well siting applications, including pump tests and preliminary assessments, to determine compliance with Ohio’s drinking water and SWAP programs.

You’ll coordinate ambient ground water monitoring activities throughout the district to define water quality baseline conditions, trends in water quality, and pollution effects upon area aquifers and to identify potential sources of contamination. You’ll provide technical assistance to local officials, public water systems operators, and industry representatives, as well as conduct special investigations of known or potential ground water contamination.

Let’s take a second to review.

·       Help coordinate Ground Water Quality Characterization Program activities.

·       Promote source water protection strategies, collecting data and preparing assessments of the geology and hydrogeology of public water systems.

·       Evaluate potential sources of ground water contamination at wastewater lagoons and land application sites to determine the potential for and extent of ground water contamination.

·       Investigate and research areas of ground water contamination impacting water supplies.

·       Evaluate hydrogeologic information to determine sites for public drinking water wells.

·       Review ground water monitoring and pumping test reports.

·       Participate on technical workgroups and perform various public relations tasks.
