JOB DESCRIPTION: Hydrologist/geomorphologist with expertise in remote sensing methods and their hydrological applications

Description of tasks

The planned research includes, among others:

  1. Review existing literature in the use of UAV imagery and remote sensing techniques for studying hydrological processes in Arctic environments, including permafrost dynamics, snowmelt, and water flow patterns.
  2. Develop and maintain a geospatial dataset integrating UAV-derived RGB, multispectral and thermal data with in-situ measurements.
  3. Participation in field research in selected Arctic regions, in collaboration with local and international research teams, to acquire new in-situ and remote sensing data.
  4. Present research findings at national and international conferences focused on Arctic hydrology, UAV applications, and climate change.
  5. Assist in the supervision and mentoring of students working on related UAV-based hydrological research.
  6. Author scientific publications and technical reports on UAV applications for hydrological monitoring in Arctic environments.

Requirements

  1. Master’s degree in Earth and Environmental Science or similar, obtained no earlier than 10 years before the start of employment. 
  2. Ability to work individually and in a diverse and international group. 
  3. Very good knowledge of remote sensing methods and applications in hydrology.
  4. Scientific experience in related areas as evidenced by a strong publication record.
  5. Excellent programming language skills (R, Matlab, Python).
  6. Excellent command of English (min. C1 spoken and written).
  7. Experience in supervising and mentoring students will be considered an advantage.
  8. Advantageously the successful applicant should have knowledge of hydrological and/or permafrost modelling.

Employment conditions:

  1. Working conditions: full-time, in-person
  2. Employment period – max 24 months (until 12.2027)
  3. Employment is planned from 01.12.2025
