Job Description
BROAD STATEMENT OF FUNCTION
- Integrate Climate Change Adaptation and Environmental Sustainability principles into the design, implementation, and monitoring of the ASEAN-BRACE (Building Regional Resilience Through Anticipatory Action and Civil Society Empowerment) and ASEAN-PRIME (Protection, Resilience, and Inclusion for Multi-Hazard Emergencies) projects.
- Facilitate the implementation of anticipatory action components in the ASEAN-BRACE project, in coordination with other relevant AHA Centre Units.
- Provide technical guidance and support to AHA Centre Units and other stakeholders, ensuring alignment with Climate Change Adaptation frameworks and Environmental Sustainability best practices.
- Establish monitoring mechanisms to track the integration of Climate Change Adaptation and Environmental Sustainability in projects and provide regular progress reports.
- Undertake additional duties as assigned by supervisors and the Executive Director of the AHA Centre.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Facilitate the Integration of Climate Change Adaptation and Environmental Sustainability Across Projects
- Work with project teams to ensure Climate Change Adaptation and Environmental Sustainability principles are embedded in the design, implementation, and monitoring of project activities.
- Collaborate with key stakeholders to effectively apply Climate Change Adaptation and Environmental Sustainability principles across all project phases.
- Review project strategies and provide guidance on integrating Climate Change Adaptation and Environmental Sustainability more effectively.
- Facilitate the Implementation of Anticipatory Action Components of the ASEAN-BRACE Project
- Assist in the planning and design of anticipatory action activities within the ASEAN-BRACE project, ensuring alignment with project objectives and regional priorities.
- Coordinate and support the execution of anticipatory action activities, collaborating with relevant units, stakeholders, and partners to ensure smooth implementation.
- Monitor and evaluate the progress of anticipatory action activities, tracking key performance indicators and providing regular updates to the project management team.
- Prepare and submit comprehensive reports on anticipatory action activities, highlighting achievements, challenges, and recommendations for future actions.
- Ensure that lessons learned and best practices from anticipatory action components are documented and shared for continuous improvement.
- Provide Technical Guidance on Climate Change Adaptation and Environmental Sustainability
- Advise and support units to ensure their activities are aligned with Climate Change Adaptation frameworks and Environmental Sustainability standards.
- Develop and disseminate tools, guidelines, and training materials to facilitate the practical application of Climate Change Adaptation and Environmental Sustainability principles across all units.
- Conduct training sessions and capacity-building activities to raise awareness and improve the implementation of Climate Change Adaptation and Environmental Sustainability in project activities.
- Provide technical support to units to address challenges in applying Climate Change Adaptation and Environmental Sustainability principles.
- Monitor and Report on Climate Change Adaptation and Environmental Sustainability Integration
- Design and implement monitoring mechanisms, including Carbon Footprint Calculation, to assess the integration of Climate Change Adaptation and Environmental Sustainability in project activities.
- Provide regular updates and progress reports, highlighting successes and identifying challenges in integrating Climate Change Adaptation and Environmental Sustainability principles.
- Ensure accurate data collection and analysis on the impact of Climate Change Adaptation and Environmental Sustainability integration across projects.
- Integrate Climate Change Adaptation and Environmental Sustainability reporting into broader monitoring and evaluation systems, providing recommendations for improvement.
- General and Other Duties
- Perform additional tasks as directed by supervisors or the Executive Director.
- Contribute to corporate operations, including administration, human resources, legal compliance, programme development, and communications.
- Participate in emergency operations and other organisational initiatives as required.
Requirements
JOB QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS
Education
- Preferred: A master’s degree in fields such as Environmental Science, Climate Change, Sustainable Development, or other relevant disciplines.
- Alternatively: Significant work experience (8+ years) in the field of Climate Change Adaptation and Environmental Sustainability may be considered in lieu of a master’s degree.
Experience
- At least five (5) years of relevant professional experience in Climate Change Adaptation, Environmental Sustainability, or related fields within the humanitarian or development sector.
- In-depth knowledge of regional and international frameworks related to Climate Change Adaptation and Environmental Sustainability (e.g., ASEAN Climate Change Initiative, UNFCCC, Paris Agreement, etc.).
- Proven experience in integrating Climate Change Adaptation and Environmental Sustainability principles into project design, implementation, and monitoring.
- Demonstrated experience in providing technical guidance to teams and stakeholders on Climate Change Adaptation and Environmental Sustainability issues.
- Familiarity with monitoring and evaluation of Climate Change Adaptation and Environmental Sustainability projects and their impacts.
- Strong experience in developing and delivering training or capacity-building activities on Climate Change Adaptation and Environmental Sustainability.
- Ability to work effectively in cross-cultural and international environments.
- Strong organisational and multitasking abilities, with flexibility to handle challenges in a fast-paced and high-pressure work environment.
- Excellent English communication skills, both written and spoken.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), email, internet browsers, and video conferencing platforms.
- Experience or familiarity with disaster management-related organisations or ASEAN disaster management mechanisms is an advantage.
- A foundational understanding of Protection, Gender, and Inclusion (PGI) concepts is preferred.
- Willingness to travel outside the duty station as required.
