Looking for a position where you can make a difference to the State’s management of water and support the delivery of projects?
Join us and work with our amazing team on a variety of projects including engaging key water stakeholders and clients for the release of unallocated water supporting major water projects, QLD businesses and agriculture. You will be involved in assessing and making recommendations on releases of unallocated water for water projects under the Water Act 2000.
This is an opportunity to be involved in the management of the State’s water resources in the Department’s South Region. Operating from within the Projects and Unallocated Water Releases team you will help deliver project coordination, submission assessment, policy review, exceptional client engagement and support within the team on matters related to the release and grant of unallocated water.

The Role
Two opportunities exist, with a primary focus on unallocated water releases. One position is a permanent role and the second is a fixed-term temporary role for two years.
These roles in the team provide you the opportunity to use and develop your technical, engagement and project management skills. We need people who are problem solvers and project managers including those who have demonstrated client engagement skills. Flexible work location arrangements will be considered for this opportunity to facilitate an adaptive and agile workforce.
Key Accountabilities:
• Provide advice in relation to unallocated water dealings and/or metering within water plans in South Region to key stakeholders including the rural sector, mining proponents, large industrial developments, renewable energy projects and First Nations people.
• Investigate and provide recommendations on water dealings and water planning proposals relating unallocated water releases.
• Interpretation and application of relevant legislation, including the ability to identify solutions to complex issues in a regulatory environment.
• Develop and maintain positive and effective working relationships with internal and external clients to ensure accurate and timely written and verbal advice on matters relating to unallocated water, metering, and assessment of major water projects under the Water Act 2000.
• Prepare, communicate, consult, and negotiate with internal and external clients in the delivery of advice on technical reports, workflows, and documentations.
• Provide timely and accurate advice on project actions, and for the preparation of complex briefs, reports and other correspondence related to major water projects and unallocated water requirements.
• Work with the team leader to ensure the team operates in a safe and enjoyable working environment and encourages personal and team development, while ensuring an appropriate work/life balance.
