Biodiversity, Conservation & Science is currently seeking to appoint a Senior Wetlands & Rivers Conservation Officer to our Regional Delivery branch.
This is an environmental water management operational role. As the senior member of the Gwydir team you will need skills in stakeholder engagement, knowledge of river and wetland ecosystems and the mechanics of water management in NSW. You will combine these skills to lead delivery of environmental water to a range of riverine and wetland targets in the Gwydir catchment to achieve long term recovery and sustained health in line with NSW regulations and Murray-Darling Basin objectives.
In practice you will manage a portfolio of water to deliver a regime of river flow events to support wetland vegetation, waterbird populations, native fish movement and breeding opportunities, and connection to the Barwon River. It is a challenging role but also a very rewarding one, where you can directly influence the health of the riverine and wetland landscape.
You will work with a supportive and experienced team, providing you with the opportunity to learn and grow into the role.
About You
To be successful in this role, you must have:
- Extensive knowledge of and experience in environmental water, river and wetland management, planning and policy including river, floodplain and wetland hydrology and ecology.
- Proven high level knowledge and understanding of current water, threatened species and biodiversity conservation frameworks, legislation and reforms impacting on rivers and wetlands conservation and management programming.
- Extensive project management experience including the delivery of environmental water conservation projects and in managing resources, prioritising competing demands and project evaluations.
- Experience negotiating successful resource management outcomes within and between groups representing diverse interests and demonstrated knowledge of the role and responsibility of the Conservation Programs, Heritage and Regulation group and other public authorities in water management.
