Operating from within South Region, this position provides water management support, including response to customer complaints and enquiries, catchment auditing and compliance response activities within the regional area, to a diverse range of internal and external clients.
Deliver compliance and enforcement activities relating to the State’s water resources and provide support and advice on the sustainable management and use of water through the implementation of relevant legislation and policy.
Advise, negotiate and consult with landholders, industry and community stakeholders on water management issues.

The Role

The botanic garden features twenty five hectares of bird life and species native to the Upper Darling Basin. Key Accountabilities
• Undertake regulatory activities associated with the compliance and management of water, associated works and riverine protection including audits and investigation of complaints and alleged non-compliance with the Water Act 2000, Water Regulation 2016, and the Planning Act 2016 including preparing reports and recommendations.
• Undertake investigations and make recommendations for audits of and potential non-compliance with water entitlements and associated resources including, take of overland flow, quarry material, riverine protection and associated developments, including both surface water and groundwater.
• Prioritise and coordinate workflow processes, managing multiple and conflicting deadlines.
• Undertake entry and validation of information into CIRaM and other water databases and provide outputs from these databases as required.
• Prepare reports for the compliance team as required.
• Consult, liaise and provide advice to staff, management, clients, the general public and Government agencies on water compliance matters.
• Work with other team members and the Manager, Compliance to effectively deliver compliance related functions in the regulated water community.
• Advise management and project teams on compliance issues through the preparation of briefs and correspondence, as well as representing the department in community forums.

About You

• You must have a degree or higher qualification, from a recognised tertiary institution in Environmental Planning, Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management or agreed equivalent as determined by the Director-General.
• Previous experience as an Authorised officer status under the Water Act or the ability to meet the requirements to become an authorised officer.
• Hold a motor vehicle drivers licence.
• Travel away from the centre may be required.
