WETSCAPES 2.0 combines the expertise of the University of Greifswald, the University of Rostock and other research partners. The CRC focuses on the functional understanding of rewetted fens, including coastal peatlands, in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. The rewetting of previously drained and often agriculturally used peatlands leads to the development of novel ecosystems that differ from natural peatlands and are largely unexplored. The planned monitoring, experimental research and modeling will focus on biogeochemical, hydrological and biological processes, with an emphasis on water and solute fluxes within and outside the peat body and the associated microbiological and biological factors. In addition to site-specific studies, the role of rewetted peatlands in the wider landscape is also investigated. We look forward to receiving your application!
