REPORTS TO: Northwest Conservation Education Manager

POSITION TYPE/HOURS:  Full-Time / Year-Round / 40 hours

SALARY RANGE: $22 – $26 per hour

POSITION SUMMARY

The Central Oregon Project Coordinator (Project Coordinator) plays a key role in the support of field projects and delivery of educational programming in Central Oregon, where TU runs a multi-faceted restoration outreach program that involves youth and young adults in TU’s conservation mission. The Project Coordinator works closely with the Northwest Conservation Education Manager to scout field sites, support project planning, and work with our project partners for implementation on the ground. In addition, the Project Coordinator will support delivery of school group field trips and after school programs for youth to learn about our projects. This is a regional-level position with responsibilities for supporting project partners, restoration project logistics, and educating youth program participants across Central Oregon.

TU seeks to hire a self-motivated and highly capable person to plan, and implement water conservation, fish passage and stream restoration projects to benefit aquatic resources and native and wild fish populations across Central Oregon. A successful candidate will have a deep passion for trout and salmon conservation issues, a background in K-12 watershed education, and experience implementing restoration projects on the ground. This position has secured funding for two years, but is intended to continue into the future. The successful applicant will work with TU staff to secure additional funding to cover core operational costs to sustain the program and position in future years. The position location is based in Central Oregon.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Coordinate educational experiences with high priority conservation projects, connecting educational audiences, volunteers and partners with diverse ages, abilities and backgrounds
  • Teach youth education participants in the field and in the classroom, catering to a diversity of learning styles and participant abilities
  • Coordinate with additional TU Staff and partners to implement project work on the ground 
  • Work with the Northwest Conservation Education Manager and TU communications staff to raise the profile of TU’s regional programming with both internal and external audiences
  • Support fundraising efforts for regional programming, which will include grant writing and the planning and implementation of fundraising events 

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required in biology, environmental education, environmental studies, science education, or a related field
  • A minimum of 5 years relevant experience (school, work, training) 
  • Experience with restoration techniques, project coordination, and community engagement
  • Passion for conservation-based watershed education, both in formal and informal settings
  • Experience leading environmental education programming in the Northwest preferred
  • Experience coordinating field crews using equipment such as chainsaws and recreational trail restoration tools, and familiarity with successful riparian planting techniques preferred
  • Grant writing experience and understanding of non-profit work preferred
  • Understanding of Trout Unlimited’s history and current organizational direction 
  • Excellent communication skills 
  • Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines, and working independently and part of a team
  • Fluency in Microsoft Office suite of applications and use of the internet and social media
  • Willingness and ability to travel extensively throughout the region and attend field days during the week or on the weekend, and stay overnight if needed
  • Valid driver’s license and a dependable, insured automobile
  • Candidates must pass a background check
