Water Officer

This role is a community focussed role that provides water management services to the Kangaroo Island Community. If you have a sound knowledge of natural resource management issues, particularly in relation to water resources and aquatic ecosystems and have mature communication and facilitation skills to adequately liaise with and engage the community, this is your chance to make a difference!

As a Water Officer you will:

  • Provide high quality technical advice, education and customer service in response to community enquiries relating to the management of water resources.
  • Deliver effective community engagement that ensures the community understand the purpose of, and their responsibilities under the water policies contained in the Kangaroo Island regional Landscape Plan and the Landscape South Australia Act 2019.
  • Provide advice and recommendations on Water Affecting Activity permit applications and monitor compliance/non compliance of Water Affecting Activity permit requirements.
  • Establish effective working relationships with a range of stakeholders including DEW water experts, land managers, other state government agencies and the community to ensure relevant stakeholders are informed of water management policies and issues.
  • Contribute and prepare timely, informed and expert advice and recommendations for the Kangaroo Island Landscape Board, General Manager, Senior Management Team and key stakeholders
  • Facilitate water resource management and monitoring programs/projects, at appropriate stages from planning, implementation, reporting and evalution, to achieve objectives and priorities.
  • Develop and support activities or initiatives that increase the awareness and/or participation of the community and industry in the identification or implementation of sustainable water resource management;
  • Manage the water resources program budget.

About you

  • You will maintain a thorough and up-to-date understanding of the issues and challenges relating to water management practices in rural communities and understands what motivates or constrains community uptake of control actions.
  • You can demonstrate your ability to effectively engage and establish relationships with rural communities
  • You can demonstrate your understanding of the principles in one or more of the following: biodiversity conservation, sustainable agriculture or water resources management.
  • A degree in natural resources management, science, environmental managment or similar will be highly regarded
  • Your experiences in Arc Map GIS will be highly regarded

The details

  • Full-time (37.5 hours per week) ASO5 Water Officer $85,790 – $95,413 per annum.
  • Ongoing position available immediately.
  • Located in Kingscote, Kangaroo Island off the coast of South Australia. 

Requirements

  • National Police Check.
  • Current class “C” driver’s licence and willingness to drive a 4WD is essential.
