Job description
Clean surface water and protection of nature and the environment: for a safe and liveable Netherlands, good supervision of compliance with road, water and environmental laws is essential. Are you the inspector in North Holland for whom inspections of discharges and the waterways of Rijkswaterstaat (RWS) no longer hold any secrets? Then read on quickly and apply!
How you contribute in your role
RWS West-Nederland Noord (WNN) is responsible for the maintenance, management and construction of (motor)ways and (main) waterways in the province of North Holland. The infrastructure is used intensively, including for various large-scale industrial activities, for example in and around the North Sea Canal and the port of Amsterdam. In combination with the high population density and the intensive cooperation with all parties involved, this makes your work as an inspector complex and fascinating.
Major WNN projects include the construction of the new sea lock at IJmuiden, the A1-A6-A9-A10-Schiphol-Amsterdam-Almere, the Zuidas tunnel in Amsterdam and the maintenance of a number of important bridges in the A44 and N99. You will be dealing with various issues, such as liveability, ecological water quality, economic development and environmental policy.
This is what gives you satisfaction
As an inspector, you will strengthen the supervision of RWS. You are responsible for clean water and the correct use of the waterways with the associated area. You do this, among other things, on the basis of issued permits. Your focus is on knowledge of water quality and the ‘wet’ area of WNN.
?A large part of the week you are on the road with a vehicle of RWS for the supervision of companies, and for mooring or work on and along the Rijkswater. The remaining time you process the results in the office, where you ensure good administration and correspondence, you speak to your colleagues, give advice and attend meetings. You also work closely with the permit issuers, lawyers and technical advisors from the WNN organization.
What we value about you
As an inspector of water and waterways, you are eager to learn, you like to work together and you can plan and organize well. You are also a strong communicator, you have persuasiveness and you know when to scale up. You do not only supervise from the land, but also from the water.

Enforcement assesses permits and notifications for enforceability and carries out risk-driven supervision, from land and water and from the air. The supervision focuses on a very wide variety of supervision areas and sectors/companies. The supervision carried out is transparent and traceable. Where necessary, we take administrative and/or criminal action.
