This is your chance to help influence and improve the environmental performance of the water companies through their activities and investment. We are looking for somebody with an excellent understanding of our organisational processes and practices to design and deliver a programme of improvement and evolution in our account management service. The service is at the centre of our relationship with water companies and holds the ‘whole company view’ in the context of the wider sector.
It is vital that we have strategic alignment, consistency of approach and decision making across this important customer group. You will work closely with the functional planning and programme teams in Operations Catchment Services and wider Water Directorate along with other internal stakeholders to develop the common operating system, services and products to embed a transformational approach to our work with the companies.
Collaborating across the business, you will quickly build relationships and develop a thorough understanding of governance and operations within the water industry regulatory framework.
The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership, programme management and engagement skills to drive innovative approaches through to implementation in our teams. Experience of our regulatory and planning interactions with the water industry would be an advantage and as part of our leadership team, you’ll provide insight and strategic direction to influence and shape thinking on water regulation.

The team
Operations Catchment Services is a national-once department providing environmental planning, account management and evidence delivery expertise. Offering high quality services we’re at the home of technical excellence for the water resources and water quality planning professions.
You’ll join the accounts management service. Our job is to work across operations, supporting directors and their staff to influence water companies to improve performance, reduce environmental impact and enhance and improve the environment through their activities and investment.
Experience/skills required
We are looking for candidates with either a degree in an environmental discipline, or equivalent relevant experience.
You will draw on several skills to deliver this role and you will need to demonstrate your ability in the following areas:
- Leading and influencing across the whole business
- Develop, lead and deliver a programme of continuous improvement, process and product development.
- Effective communication and negotiation skills in dealing with business colleagues at all levels
- Analytical thinking and problem solving so that you can not only review a situation to identify potential issues but also identify value added solutions
- Building respectful working relationships with emotional intelligence
- Manage and present data and information effectively
- A flexible work style and ability to work with pace and agility are essential
- Knowledge and practical experience of water company regulation and an understanding of the environmental pressures facing the industry.

You’ll have an incident management objective in your development plan. We’ll support you to find an incident role to suit your needs and circumstances. Appropriate training will be given.
You’ll have an EA Office base location, as a national role the working location is flexible.
We use smart tools to stay connected and reduce travel, some travel and overnights may be required.
