The NSW Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (DCCEEW) has an exciting opportunity for a Team Leader (Ecohydrology) to join our Environmental Water Planning team which provide technical and modelling support to inform our delivery of large projects across the NSW Murray-Darling Basin.
Job Grade / Classification: Environment Officer Class 11 – Salary $134,445 – 148,168 + super
Employment Type: Temporary Full-time (to 31 December 2026 with a possibility of extension)
Location: Flexible within NSW, dependent on experience
The successful applicant will be a highly experienced Ecohydrologist capable of implementing best practice modelling process, developing junior staff members and managing projects to successful completion. The successful applicant will be an excellent communicator, self-motivated, strategic, and keen to work collaboratively with many staff across DCCEEW and other NSW government agencies. You will enjoy working as part of a multi-disciplinary team and be responsible for providing technical leadership to projects and junior staff.
The successful applicant for this position will be required to:
- Lead input into the development and implementation of ecohydrology to inform contemporary environmental water management and decision making to improve delivery of river and wetland health outcomes.
- Develop hydrological modelling and analytical capacity in the team to inform policy and planning.
- Lead the implementation of modelling platforms to inform and support environmental water management.
- Develop and present scientific and technical information to explain complex processes clearly to a range of audiences.
- Manage scientific project implementation, including monitoring project plans, coordinating resources and managing budgets.
- Provide significant levels of support and mentoring of junior staff

The Biodiversity, Conservation and Science (BCS) Group within DCCEEW seeks to improve biodiversity outcomes, reduce natural hazard risk and enhance a healthy, productive and resilient environment.
The Hunter Central Coast Branch of Biodiversity Conservation and Science delivers biodiversity and conservation programs and services across the 11 local government areas within the region.

Participation in the NSW Biodiversity Offsets Scheme (BOS) & BCT’s Private Land Conservation (PLC) Programs
All new employees with an existing defined interest in the BOS will be required to disclose their personal (or a close family member’s) participation to ensure potential conflicts are managed appropriately. In some circumstances this may require divestment of the interest.
The BCT also has restrictions on staff participation in its funded PLC programs. No additional funding, beyond that already agreed to by the BCT, may be sought or approved during time as a BCT employee or for a 12-month period following termination of employment.
