Description of Work
The primary purpose of the position is to support regulatory permitting and approval tasks necessary for implementation of certain infrastructure projects across all Division wide programs. This position supports public water system viability through the review of engineering designs, reports, plans and specifications, calculations and other supporting information submitted for approval and authorization to construct public water system supply, treatment, storage and distribution facilities.Other Responsibilities:
- Evaluate documentation for compliance with federal/state rules and regulations.
- Prepare approval documents.
- Provide effective and timely technical assistance based on thorough knowledge of drinking water rules and of regulations and engineering principles and practices.

This environmental stewardship is accomplished through actions including permitting issuance, investigations, regulatory compliance and enforcement, monitoring and field assessments, certifications, laboratory analysis and testing, planning, water quality standards management, educational outreach and other efforts. - Ability to make recommendations to higher level engineers or managers on project concerns/issues.
- Ability to communicate, both verbally and in written form, with people such as the general public, environmental contacts, public officials, and other similar personnel.
- Ability to write technical reports and use spreadsheets or databases.
- Valid driver’s license.

Bachelor’s degree in an applicable field of engineering from an appropriately accredited institution; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Necessary Special Qualification May require registration as a professional engineer by the North Carolina Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors.
