Position SummaryThe Ecological Restoration BSc program is seeking a temporary, part-time (0.27 FTE) Faculty for Terrain and Stream Channel Assessment for Ecological Restoration (RENR 8201). The position will entail instructing a course at the undergraduate level, further developing/modifying existing curriculum, and providing field-based and applied learning opportunities.
Duties & ResponsibilitiesThe successful candidate should have a strong foundation in physical sciences such as hydrology, fluvial geomorphology, soil sciences/geology, and terrain mapping/assessment. Candidates should also have strong field skills, knowledge and experience of research/monitoring design, and preferably experience applying knowledge of the physical sciences within an environmental management/ecological restoration context. Experience with any of the following are particularly advantageous: GIS, watershed assessment, terrain and ecosystem mapping, sediment and soil erosion control.
QualificationsQUALIFICATIONS:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum of MSc in hydrology, fluvial geomorphology, soil sciences, geology/geoscience, applied ecology, or a related discipline.
Minimum of three years of experience in hydrology, fluvial geomorphology, terrain mapping/assessment, soil sciences, applied ecology, or a related eco-hydrology discipline.
Knowledge and experience designing research and monitoring programs.
Experience designing and implementing a range of field assessments, including for instance assessments of hydrology, stream channels, water quality, soils, terrain, or biota.
Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills. Applicants invited for an interview will be required to submit an example of their writing and deliver a presentation for the selection committee.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a collegial environment.
Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
Demonstrated flexibility and adaptability, which are needed to effectively manage the dynamic conditions and logistics associated with our applied programs.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Strong preference for a demonstrated ability to teach effectively at the post-secondary level in both classroom and field settings.
Strong preference for knowledge of the soils and ecosystems of British Columbia, BC standards for terrain mapping, and aerial photo interpretation.
Experience using GIS to interpret geomorphology and terrain.
Knowledge of and experience with the principles of ecological restoration/environmental management.
Experience teaching and/or working with First Nations.
Experience designing and implementing management treatments focused on topics such as stream restoration or soil erosion.

Salary RangeSalary Range: $65,045 – $113,545 per annum.
Additional Salary InformationSalary prorated based on percentage and term of appointment. Salary based on education, experience and placement criteria as outlined in the Collective Agreement.
