Department Description
The Staff Research Associate II will assist with research, testing grapevine responses to environmental and disease stress. Assist with field and laboratory measurements, including measuring vine gas exchange and water stress, berry growth and chemistry, and leaf and berry anatomy traits in experimental vineyards with different rootstock/scion combinations and disease treatments.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications – For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position
- BS in Biology, Plant Sciences, Agriculture, Hydrology, Environmental Science or related field, at the time of appointment. OR > 3 months of experience working in plant, soil, or environmental science research, or research in a related field.
- Experience with plant physiology experiments, including measuring gas exchange and water potentials (e.g., with a LICOR or pressure chamber).
- Experience working with microscopy, conducting fieldwork, monitoring grapevine physiology, yield, and berry chemistry.
- Experience working with grape rootstock trials.
- Strong planning, organizational skills, and attention to detail, especially in record-keeping.
- Ability to work under strenuous outdoor conditions (early morning, hot afternoons).

Department Overview
The Department of Viticulture and Enology is an academic (education, research, and outreach) department in the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences. The department unites a diverse community of faculty, staff, and students under a shared passion for wine with the goal of nurturing the next generation of wine growers, makers, researchers, and educators. Groundbreaking research and knowledge extension are the other core components of the mission to address both current and future challenges in the wine industry. Work Environment
UC Davis is a smoke and tobacco free campus effective January 1, 2014. Smoking, the use of smokeless tobacco products, and the use of unregulated nicotine products (e-cigarettes) will be strictly prohibited on any UC Davis owned or leased property, indoors and outdoors, including parking lots and residential space.
The candidate must be able to work in the field. They will need to be able to carry up to 30 lb and stand for several hours at a time. They will also need to conduct early-morning and midafternoon sampling in the field up to several times per week during the summer, which will involve working in the dark with a headlamp and in hot weather. The SRA must be able to provide their own transportation between UC Davis and the experimental vineyards several times per week.
