Role description

A project officer focuses on providing all-round support in activities related to project management, as well as providing advice on data services to partners. As a project officer, you have affinity with one or more of the following expertise areas:  data services and the WASH/water sector. You help to strengthen and innovate our services and you provide technical support to partners and colleagues. You work closely together with Akvo’s data services team and project and programme managers within Akvo.

Responsibilities

Project management support (WASH/water sector related)

  • Provide project management support (administration, budgeting, contracting, invoicing, etc)
  • (Help) implement project activities including lessons learned, risk management, internal meeting preparation, planning
  • Provide technical support to partners and colleagues
  • Maintain a good relationship with Akvo partners worldwide
  • Support with administrative tasks as required

Project management system and Global Delivery Framework (GDF)

  • Support further development of GDF, e.g. training to colleagues, data analysis and creation of actionable insights, present GDF findings, link with internal systems such as Hubspot and Asana
  • Help further implement  our project management tool, e.g. support in implementation, training and documentation
  • Help further professionalise project delivery, e.g. training, documentation, lessons learned

Technical advice / consultancy

  • Provide hands-on support to colleagues and Akvo partners in one of Akvo’s expertise areas (water/climate/agri)
  • Help identify partners’ data needs and provide advice
  • Guide and assist colleagues and partners with the implementation of  data services

Business development

  • Assist with proposal writing when required
  • Provide input for proposals related to your field of expertise
  • Provide logistical support for(networking-) events and training

Other duties as assigned

  • From time to time, Akvo can ask the employee to temporarily perform other duties than described in the job description

In general, a project officer spends 80% or more of their time on billable projects.

 

Skills

You are a flexible and independent self-starter with analytical and creative problem-solving skills and the ability to multitask in a dynamic environment.
You have:

  • 2-4 years of relevant work experience, preferably in the water sector and/or  international development sector
  • A MSc degree in Water, Environmental Sciences, International Development studies, Behavioural Science, Development Economics or related relevant field
  • Relevant work experience with a focus on project management and data services and/or PMEL
  • Excellent skills in using google sheets and/or excel
  • Experience with stakeholder management in an international and culturally diverse environment.
  • Good communication and team collaboration skills
  • The ability to operate via online tools, as part of a global team yet being able to work autonomously as well. Experience with tasks management tools (Asana, Trello) is a plus.
  • Excellent command of English in both writing and speaking (French would be an advantage)
