The School of Earth Sciences is looking for a trained hydrologist, remote sensing and data engineering expert will be working as a member of the Surface Water and Ocean Topography Science Team (SWOT) science team. In the role for the SWOT science team, the researcher will continue ongoing work developing and testing algorithms for Confluence, the suite of code that produces SWOT discharge parameter estimates. In this, the researcher will expand and improve the a-priori dataset used for calibration and validation of SWOT discharge estimates. This will extend into networking with other researchers and international stream gage agencies to improve the assets that Confluence has access to. One outcome goal for this work will be both improving and accessing the state of SWOT global discharge accuracy, not just in locations where we have gages, but worldwide. The researcher will also take the lead in validating SWOT discharge data products and coordinating Ohio State discharge estimation efforts. Additionally, the researcher will be a key interface between the Confluence team, the Discharge Algorithm Working Group (DAWG), and The Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) Algorithm Development Team (ADT) members. This will extend not only to weekly and biweekly calls, but also to national and international travel developer meetings and conferences.  The researcher will also mentor students in Durand’s group, participate in dissemination of the research through publications and scientific conferences, and participate in future grant proposals as both PI and Co-PI.
