The Water Science and Monitoring Branch provides the science evidence base for policy development and water resource management. Key business areas include surface water and groundwater monitoring and asset maintenance; science assessment, modelling and reporting for water allocation and water security planning (including for Basin Plan implementation); statutory assessments; technical and scientific support for national and state water reform; and for support for emergency response actions.
About the Projects:
The Water and River Murray Division have successfully secured funding from the Commonwealth National Water Grid Authority to undertake a number of research projects including the rainfall-runoff-recharge relationship project.
The rainfall-runoff-recharge relationships project is a Commonwealth funded project to update or develop new relationships that account for the impacts of land and climate changes across the state. The outcome will be used to inform water planning and management.
We’re looking for a number of dedicated individuals, passionate about conserving the environment and ready to commence work for this project and other initiatives within our Water Science and Monitoring Branch.
About the Role:
The Water and River Murray Division are recruiting for Hydrologists at either the PO3 or PO4 classification
The PO3 Senior Hydrologist is responsible, under limited direction, for the provision of professional hydrological assessments, advice and services. This role works both individually and as part of a multi-disciplinary team to assist in the successful delivery of project management and hydrological modelling assessment and advice requirements, and to assist addressing the State’s strategic priorities in relation to the sustainable management of South Australia’s water resources. The incumbent is required to provide advice to other government agencies on matters relating to the planning and management of South Australia’s water resources.
The PO4 Principal Hydrologist is responsible for leading the provision of professional hydrological assessments, advice and services. This role works both individually and as part of a multi-disciplinary team to lead the successful delivery of project management and hydrological modelling assessment and advice requirements. The role also provides technical direction, advice and guidance to support addressing the State’s strategic priorities in relation to the sustainable management of South Australia’s water resources. The incumbent is required to provide expert scientific advice and analysis to other government agencies and landscape boards on matters relating to the planning and management of South Australia’s water resources. The Principal Hydrologist will also mentor staff to build their technical capacity.
Essential Qualification:
Tertiary degree in engineering, natural resources, science or equivalent, with emphasis on surface water hydrology is essential and relevant post-graduate qualifications are desirable.
Special Conditions:
- May be required to participate in fire management and associated duties.
- Some out of hours work may be required.
- Occasional intra and interstate travel may be required including overnight absences.
- A current Class C drivers licence is desirable.
Contract: Contract to 30 June 2027
Remuneration:
PO3 $101,285 min – $107,078 max per annum
PO4 $110,696 min – $120,470 max per annum
