The Lincoln Institute of Land Policy seeks to improve quality of life through the effective use, taxation, and stewardship of land. A nonprofit private operating foundation whose origins date to 1946, the Lincoln Institute researches and recommends creative approaches to land as a solution to economic, social, and environmental challenges. The Babbitt Center for Land and Water Policy, a center of the Lincoln Institute of Land Policy, seeks to advance the integration of land and water management to meet the current and future water needs of communities, economies, and the environment. We develop tools and best practices to guide decisions through research, training, and partnerships for sustainable management of land and water resources in the Colorado Basin and beyond.
Position Overview
Help advance the team’s work to address the sustainability of water and land resources focused on helping communities implement meaningful policies and practical solutions that recognize their alignment. You will work closely with our team to help coordinate regional programs and networks, host educational events, pursue relevant programmatic initiatives, and help implement the educational activities of the Babbitt Center.
This is a full-time, hybrid position in our Phoenix office at 37.5 hours/week reporting to the Associate Director, Land and Water Program Implementation. This position requires up to 10% travel, primarily throughout the western U.S.
What You Will Do
- Contribute to the design of educational training workshops and dissemination technical assistance tools to help communities and practitioners respond to challenges in sustainable land and water management.
- Help coordinate expert and practitioner advisory groups, multi-day community workshops, and regional dialogues to collaborate across watersheds.
- Arrange meetings and conference calls and prepare meeting notes; assist in the organization and staffing of large meetings and workshops, take the lead on logistical tasks, and serve as a point person at various events.
- Contribute to the development of decision-making tools [for clients] on timely land and water issues and topics captured through practice-based learning and knowledge exchanges with partners and networks with guidance from the team.
- General project management tasks such as scheduling, record-keeping, communication, expense management, web maintenance, networking, and outreach.
- Assist in developing a range of high-quality written and digital communications, education and training materials.
- Work effectively and cooperatively on Institute operational matters.
- Undertake special projects and other duties as assigned.
What You’ll Need:
Education and Experience
- Undergraduate degree in related field with approximately 2 years relevant work experience; additional work experience in lieu of college degree accepted.
- Basic understanding of land or water policy and management policies and practices.
- Familiarity with public policy and coordinating activities with stakeholders in different public, private and non-profit sectors.
- Able and willing to travel both within and outside the US.
- Legal authorization to work in the United States.
