Ideal candidate will have dam safety specific experience, experience with probabilistic hydrology and hydrologic frequency analysis, and familiarity with the risk evaluation process, including familiarity with how the economy could be impacted by hydrologic risk.
JOB SUMMARY:
Performs complex water resources civil engineering work, including hydrologic and hydraulic analysis. The incumbent is responsible for the performance of progressively more challenging duties in this work area. The work more specifically includes:
- Application of fundamental hydrologic principles including rain – runoff analysis, unit hydrograph watershed response theory, hydrologic routing techniques, and analysis of reservoir and stream gage discharge data.
- Analysis of reservoir operations and assessment of alternative operations policies.
- Development and refinement of the hydraulic and physical relationships of reservoirs or other civil systems; and could include the development of mathematical models of the systems
- Developing, applying and verifying computational models of fluid dynamics, hydraulic and hydrologic processes, and other related processes for the solution of engineering problems.
- Performs calculations involved with drainage studies which includes calibrating and verifying hydrologic and hydraulic models.
- Supports the Program Manager of Hydrology and Hydraulics in program activities and assists in providing guidance on a wide variety of issues requiring hydrology and hydraulics expertise within River Operations and TVA.
- Other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
Day to day assignments is made by program manager, who also defines the objectives and establishes priorities and guidelines and reviews the results. Supervision is neither close, nor continuous. Completed work is either spot-checked or checked in detail, depending on its difficulty, uniqueness, and purpose.
SKILLS AND PROFICIENCIES:
Experience with hydrologic and hydraulic analysis, including assessment of hydrologic watershed response for both floods and droughts; steady and unsteady flow analysis; mathematical model calibration and verification; and statistical analysis. Possesses excellent written/oral communication skills.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
A Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or comparable related engineering discipline from an accredited college or university. A Master’s degree is desirable.
Four or more years of experience in professional engineering work, including knowledge & understanding of hydrologic and hydraulic analysis.
EIT certificate or PE License is desirable.
Must have demonstrated proficiency in civil engineering as evidenced by completion of Engineering Graduate Progression Plan or equivalent post engineering graduate education and experience.
Working Conditions
Telework may be performed from within the TVA Work Area. Employees are responsible for meeting the established reporting requirements of their business unit or position, which may vary based on business needs. Employees will not receive travel reimbursement from the virtual work location to their TVA official work location.
