The Production Operations Manager is responsible for the leadership and daily management of water production at Jersey Water’s facilities. This role involves overseeing the Operations Controllers’ activities, ensuring the effective, safe production and treatment of water, whilst managing all treatment works and raw water pumping stations. Working closely with other departments, you will optimise processes, allocate resources, manage assets and projects to maintain Jersey Water’s operational excellence. The role may also involve participation in an out-of-hours standby duty officer rota.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and lead a high-performing team, providing guidance and promoting skills development.
  • Oversee the safe and efficient operation of all water production and treatment facilities, ensuring compliance with water quality standards.
  • Drive operational initiatives in line with Jersey Water’s strategic goals, coordinating asset updates and maintaining an optimised asset register.
  • Lead emergency response efforts, ensuring readiness for planned and unplanned incidents, interruptions, and outages. Manage the department’s standby emergency rota.
  • Collaborate in budget development and manage resources effectively to enhance operational efficiency.
  • Represent Jersey Water externally, engaging with stakeholders, government bodies, and industry groups to enhance our role in water treatment.
  • Ensure compliance with Health & Safety (Jersey) Law, working with the Safety and Risk Manager to uphold high safety and hygiene standards.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

  • Degree or equivalent experience in engineering, operations management, or a related field.
  • Hands-on, recent experience in water treatment processes and regulatory compliance (specifically, water quality and Health and Safety standards).
  • Detailed knowledge of water production and treatment assets, with demonstrable experience.
  • Proven skills in incident management for critical operations, with an emphasis on service continuity.
  • Strong leadership abilities, supporting team development and alignment with business goals.
  • Clear communication skills that foster inter-departmental collaboration in line with Jersey Water’s mission.

Benefits

After completion of the probation period:
  • Pension – Membership of the defined contribution scheme.  Jersey Water pays 5% up to 5 years’ service and then 10%, employees pay 5%.  A matching scheme is available whereby Jersey Water matches additional voluntary contributions up to a maximum of 5%.
