Lecturer in Hydrogeology - Emphasis on groundwater modelling

IHE Delft Institute for Water Education

Delft, Netherlands 🇳🇱

The Water Resources and Ecosystems Department in IHE Delft conducts research and education activities that aim to support society in decisions and policy that sustain freshwater resources and ecosystems by balancing their protection, restoration, use, and development. We conduct research and provide post-graduate education and training to professionals in the fields of hydraulic engineering, hydrology/hydrogeology, and aquatic ecosystems while maintaining interdisciplinary collaborations with other departments in IHE Delft and with international partners.

The Sustainable Freshwater Resources and Ecosystems Research Group has expertise in the movement of surface water and groundwater through the landscape, the role of these flows in supporting ecosystems and the availability of these resources to society. The group enriches this expertise through research and shares it through education and training in collaboration with other research groups across the Institute and with external partners. The group is looking for motivated candidates to contribute to these activities with a focus on groundwater modelling.

Candidates should have a PhD in Hydrogeology/Groundwater Hydrology or a related field and a solid background and experience in applied groundwater modelling. Experience in groundwater data collection and analysis is required. Educational experiences in low- and middle-income countries would be an advantage.

A fluent command of English and good communication skills are required. Competency in other widely spoken languages is an advantage. It is expected that candidates will have an enthusiasm for teaching in a multicultural environment, developing research lines, and training professionals in the application of groundwater models to enhance capacity in low and middle-income countries and those in transition.

The successful candidate will hold the position of lecturer in the Water Resources and Ecosystems Department and will contribute to the MSc programme in Water and Sustainable Development (https://www.un-ihe.org/education), which includes teaching of related modules and mentoring thesis projects of MSc students. The successful candidate will also contribute to several ongoing funded projects and support local partners and students in these activities. She or he will be expected to build their own professional profile in research and capacity strengthening through project acquisition (writing proposals), scientific publications, and networking.
