Duties & Responsibilities | Duties and Responsibilities: Assists with coordination of research associated with funded and pilot research projects related to agrivoltaics and climate smart agriculture. Assists with the administration and implementation of research programs among collaborators. Inspects and prioritizes ponds and wetlands for improvement projects on an annual basis. Monitor Plants and Ecosystems: Leads field data collection and database management related to plant and ecosystem function and water use. May include measures of plant stress and rates of photosynthesis and transpiration, soil sampling, and related equipment maintenance. Mentoring: Assists rest of team leadership with formal and informal mentoring of undergraduate research assistants and interns. May include co-developing semester- or summer-long research experiences around agrivoltaics and climate-smart agriculture. Education and Outreach: Coordinates content for social media and website. Assists at community events and workshops. Site Management: Coordinates team to ensure that research sites are maintained and available to support funded and pilot research projects. Assists in engagement with land stewards – farmers, research facilities, and solar companies – to ensure that sites remain operational. Serves as the main liaison to communicate updates from the site operations and the rest of the research team. Working Conditions and Physical Requirements: Work is performed primarily in a standard office environment and outdoors based on assignment. Primary job functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in an office and field research setting (including lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling light weight (50 pounds) equipment). Ability to perform physical labor commonly encountered in environmental field studies and operations, including working in a variety of outdoor settings and weather conditions representative of southern Arizona. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Demonstrated ability to provide ideas for innovations and follow through to implementation. Ability to organize and lead multiple projects and priorities, manage workload, work under pressure and meet deadlines. Excellent communication and presentation skills. Ability to perform research, assemble information, and prepare detailed reports of technical information for a variety of audiences. Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with team members, other agencies, volunteer groups, and the community. |
Minimum Qualifications | Minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.Bachelor’s degree in ecology, natural resources, environmental science, or closely related field.Valid driver’s license and the ability to drive according to the University Fleet Safety Policy.Fleet Safety Policy. |
Preferred Qualifications | Master’s degree in ecology, natural resources, environmental science, or closely related field.Additional years of work experience in a related field.Proficient in operating and maintaining LiCOR LI-6400and LI-6800 equipment and processing associated data.Experience in programing, operating, and maintaining field micrometeorological equipment.Experience engaging audiences through social media outreach and traditional educational channels.Experience grant writing in research publications and / or technical reports.Five years of related field experience in implementing field research, primarily in agriculture or natural vegetative ecosystems. |
