JOB SUMMARY:Â Temporary Research Assistant to support our ongoing research projects in wastewater and water microbial analysis. In this role, you will assist with laboratory work focused on extracting and measuring nucleic acid levels using advanced laboratory methodology.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Extraction of RNA from wastewater or DNA from freshwater
- Running of reverse transcription
- Use of digital Polymerase Chain Reaction
- Use and care for biochemical analytical equipment
- Ensure accurate data collection, recording, and processing
- Employ mandatory safety practices
- Perform other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
General supervision is received from the grant PI, Dr. Tami Sivy.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must have bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry, Biology, or similar field
- Must have experience with qPCR and ddPCR
- MUST have pipetting and other lab experience.
- Excellent attendance habits, punctual
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Detail oriented, consistent work habits
- Data collection and processing skills, basic Microsoft Word/Excel skills
- Awareness and respect for basic safety procedures
- Willingness to execute chemical procedures with focus and consistency
- Respond positively to instruction and constructive critique
- GIS experience is beneficial
- Experience and ability to positively interact with a diverse campus community.
- Ability to perform the essential duties of the position with or without accommodations.
