Missions
The project concerns the analysis of the contamination of run-off water in a road environment, and in particular the characterisation of the physical speciation of metals contained in stormwater from the main bridge of the Nantes ring road.
Activities
The tasks to be carried out are as follows:
– organise and carry out one or two water sampling campaigns on the site of the run-off water retention-infiltration basin
– carry out a physical fractionation of the water on a filtration cascade followed by ultrafiltration
– analyse the fractions to determine the concentrations of metals, major elements and organic carbon
– carry out a comparison with the results obtained using another fractionation technique by a research partner
– produce a report on the experiment carried out, its interpretation in relation to other data already acquired in the laboratory and the inter-laboratory comparison.
Skills
Technical skills (expert level) :
– fractionation techniques using cascade filtration and pressure ultrafiltration
– chemical analysis techniques using ICP-OES and ICP-MS
– techniques for measuring organic carbon in water
Knowledge: urban stormwater management, analytical chemistry, urban water pollution
Know-how: fine laboratory experimentation, in-situ water sampling
Personal skills: teamwork, precision, autonomy
Work Context
The researcher will be recruited by the IRSTV, a CNRS research federation (FR 2488), based at the Ecole Centrale de Nantes. The position is part of a project funded by OSUNA and IRSTV, with collaboration between Univ Eiffel (one of the founders of IRSTV) and DEEP/INSA Lyon. The experimental part of the work will be carried out at the Water and Environment laboratory at the Univ Eiffel campus in Nantes.
Constraints and risks
The person recruited will be supported by technical staff of Univ Eiffel trained in the constraints and risks associated with field sampling and chemical analysis in the laboratory.
