The Idaho Department of Water Resources (IDWR) is seeking a water resource professional to join our Ground Water Protection Section as a Technical Hydrogeologist. Based in our State Office in Boise, this role is open to licensed professional geologists or hydrogeologists with experience in well design and construction of various types of wells, including domestic, monitoring, municipal, and geothermal. The selected individual will play a crucial role in ensuring Idaho’s groundwater and geothermal resources are safeguarded from waste and contamination.
Key responsibilities include collaborate with IDWR regional staff, state and federal agencies, and the public to resolve technical and compliance issues. The role also involves administering the geothermal resources and driller licensing programs, representing IDWR at workshops and public meetings, and independently managing complex projects. This position is ideal for a self-starter who thrives in a dynamic environment.

Examples of Duties
Applies intensive and diversified knowledge of hydrogeologic principles and practices within a specialty area
- Plans, schedules, conducts and coordinates detailed phases of hydrogeologic work
- Performs work that involves conventional hydrogeologic practices, but includes a variety of complex features
- Plans and coordinates work to develop improved techniques to solve unusual problems requiring creativity in the modification of conventional practices
- Work should result in improved techniques and procedures for water resource evaluation, administration and management
- May supervise or provide leadwork to professional and/or technical staff
Minimum Qualifications
Licensure requirement:
· Registration as a Professional Geologist is required as defined in Idaho Code Title 54, Chapter 28; OR Registration as a Professional Geologist is required within six months of hire
Experience:
· Designing and implementing statewide and/or regional operations and/or programs in one of the following hydrogeologic specialties: ground water flow and monitoring, ground water quality monitoring and protection or regional ground water modeling
· Reviewing hydrogeologic analyses and making decisions relative to their merit
Desirable Qualifications
· Working knowledge of well construction equipment and methods
· Experience with water level and/or water quality monitoring/studies
· Interpreting and applying state and federal laws and regulations regarding groundwater protection
· Collecting, analyzing and interpreting engineering or geologic data, presenting findings and preparing reports and recommendations
· Experience designing and overseeing construction of wells
· Experience with ArcMap, Microsoft Access, and Microsoft Excel applications.
· Experience with the negotiated rule making process.
