  • We offer strong visionary leadership – with emphasis on research and impact at scale​ towards transition to clean energy, including solar, pumped storage hydropower, etc., its likely impacts on water and land resources, and the challenges in managing sectoral water demands.
  • Undertake qualitative and quantitative research that includes: systematic review for evidence research and meta-analysis, prepare questionnaires for key informant interviews and other data collection/survey instruments, analyse data using quantitative and qualitative tools and methods, conduct stakeholders’ consultations, and prepare research reports.
  • Travel to field sites, and conduct and facilitate fieldwork including focus group discussions, interviews, meetings, and training for gathering primary information.​
  • Regularly track policy measures taken by the government and their implementation status in water, energy (including renewables), and agriculture sectors in India.​
  • Publish in leading peer-reviewed journals and generate other knowledge products for different audiences such as blogs, policy briefs, op-eds, etc., at regular intervals.
  • Establishing and managing relationships with project counterparts from CEEW’s partners.​

Purpose

The CEEW’s sustainable water programme informs policy-making for the sustainable development of water resources and their effective management through research in areas of circular economy in used water management and water bodies rejuvenation; capacity building for mainstreaming climate action in water; sustainable development through policy coherence in food, land, and water systems; and water accounting-based planning.

For its Sustainable Water programme, CEEW seeks to hire a Programme Associate having good exposure to water, energy and agriculture domains. An ideal candidate should understand the nexus among them, the challenges in addressing the nexus, and the policy discourse followed in India for the same. Also, the candidate should possess strong data analysis skills, be proficient in using statistical tools, research writing, and support the organisation in extending its network with the government and non-government stakeholders in the Indian states.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Understand the water, energy and agriculture space including their nexus while India moves
  • Work with cross-disciplinary datasets and quantitative and qualitative methods to design and assess strategies for managing energy demand for EV charging.
  • Use open-source tools, such as Python-based modelling and simulation tools, to analyse the techno-economic impact of electricity demand-side management strategies on consumers, electricity distribution companies (discoms) and the electricity grid in general.
  • Assess the impact of innovative tariff designs and incentives on the electricity demand, especially EV charging behaviour.
  • Support government and industry engagements on policy levers to meet India’s road transport electrification goals through primary and secondary research.
  • Generate and disseminate knowledge and findings from studies through presentations, high-quality research reports, memos, opinion pieces, videos, etc., with the help of CEEW’s outreach team.
  • Write and prepare research reports/papers/presentations/fact sheets and other communication material to convey the research findings to diverse stakeholders.
  • Build strong networks of trust and relationships with key stakeholders in the sector, including government officials, regulators and civil society organisations.
  • Keep a tab on current discourse/research on the power sector and EV ecosystem in the national and global contexts and come up with innovative ideas to better understand, measure, monitor, communicate and (ultimately) improve the power supply situation in the country.
  • Travel to project sites to conduct interviews or collect data for research.

Program Assistance

  • Assist senior researchers in the team in conceptualising new projects, and developing high- impact research proposals.
  • Contribute to development of cross-team research proposals and undertake such research studies.
  • Assist with project and programme implementation, including preparing presentations, factsheets and other communication materials.
  • Assist effective outreach of research outputs through coordination with the outreach team, and engagement with a broader network of stakeholders, and concerned policymakers.
  • Participate in relevant conferences, workshops, and training programmes for a comprehensive understanding of developments relevant to water, energy and agriculture.
  • Assist senior team members in important meetings and sessions, such as prepare notes, and conduct follow ups, as required.
  • Participate in weekly team meetings and assist with preparing minutes and chairing the weekly meetings.

Selection Criteria

Qualification and work experience:

  • Master’s degree in Environmental Studies/Natural Resource Management/Water Resources Management/Public Policy or any other relevant water resource management field.
  • Minimum of seven years of experience working on policy research projects with a core focus on water, energy, and food systems.
  • Minimum of two relevant publications in peer-reviewed journals or as book chapters.
  • Proficiency in statistical and quantitative analysis using STATA, R Studio, or Python; and qualitative analysis using NVIVO, or ATLAS.ti.
  • Experience in engagement with government officials at the state level, civil society organisations, researchers, and communities at the grassroots.

Key skills

  • Strong research skills to support quantitative and qualitative data analysis.
  • Ability to use MS Office application suite.
  • Excellent presentation skills are essential for effective, efficient, and adaptive verbal and written communication.
