For Love of Water (FLOW) seeks to hire a new or recent law graduate for a two-year environmental law and policy fellowship. The Law Fellow will engage in FLOW’s water protection law and policy programs – locally inspired but with international reach. We’re looking for a passionate advocate ready for hands-on work in Michigan, at the center of the world’s largest freshwater resource.
About FLOW: Weare a Great Lakes law and policy center based in Traverse City, Michigan. As an independent, non-partisan, 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, FLOW works to protect 20% of the planet’s surface freshwater for the benefit of all. We are a trusted source of information for citizens and decision-makers on issues affecting the Great Lakes, groundwater, and drinking water, from the Midwest to DC, Ottawa, and beyond. Through litigation, multimedia communications, legislation, and targeting state and federal agencies with policy initiatives, we advance cutting-edge public trust policy solutions.
Position: FLOW seeks committed, creative advocates who are ambitious for change. This new, 2-year fellowship offers an opportunity to work with seasoned attorneys on behalf of a locally oriented, grassroots organization that tackles big problems like livestock confinement pollution and pipeline spills. The Law Fellow will work on all aspects of litigation, including legal research, drafting memoranda and pleadings, investigating facts, and working directly with clients and experts. Other tasks may include drafting notice letters, attending hearings, and working on discovery. As part of a law, policy, and communications team, the Law Fellow will learn about all aspects of FLOW’s operations, making a vital contribution to our success and impact.
Qualifications: Applicants must be recent graduates of or anticipate 2025 graduation from an accredited law school. A strong academic record, outstanding legal research and writing skills, and demonstrated interest in environmental justice and public interest work are required.
Compensation: Compensation is $70,000 annually, with bar review and exam expenses, health care, retirement benefits, and flexible hybrid work available.
EEO Statement: FLOW is committed to fostering, cultivating, and preserving a diverse and inclusive workplace and seeks a wide range of perspectives and backgrounds. An equal opportunity employer, FLOW does not discriminate in employment, promotion, compensation, or other terms and conditions of employment based on race, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, color, religion, national origin or ancestry, age, marital status, disability, veteran status, or any other basis prohibited by applicable law. FLOW encourages all qualified candidates to apply.
