Job Description Summary | The Department of Geosciences at Auburn University invites applications for a tenure-track Associate or Assistant Professor faculty position in Human-Environment Interactions (HEI), beginning fall semester 2025. We seek an outstanding interdisciplinary scholar to build an innovative research and teaching program in any area of HEI to provide the capacity, disciplinary depth, and interdisciplinary broadness to examine past, present, and future environmental changes and impact of these changes on society. The successful candidate will develop interdisciplinary research and teaching with a disciplinary home in the geosciences. The successful candidate will demonstrate an ability to work at the intersection of human and environmental systems within the broader framework of the Geosciences and Earth System Science. Areas of research and teaching specialization may include but are not limited to 1) coupled socio-environmental systems modeling and/or empirical approaches; 2) climate change impacts, resilience, and adaptation; 3) assessment of natural hazards and disasters; 4) food, energy, and water security; 5) environmental health; and/or 6) environmental justice and social vulnerability. The successful candidate will be expected to seek extramural funding opportunities from federal funding agencies such as NSF, NIH, CDC, USGS, NASA, DOE, and other research foundations. To support our Geology and Geography undergraduate and graduate programs, as well as our interdisciplinary Earth System Science PhD program, the successful candidate will teach courses pertinent to their expertise which could include qualitative/quantitative/mixed methods and/or HEI themed courses to expand the skillsets of our students. The incoming candidate will also have the opportunity to develop new courses in their area of specialization. Minimum Qualifications | Applicants are expected to hold a Ph.D. in geography, geology, geosciences, earth sciences, or a related field at the time of appointment. The successful candidate is expected to develop a rigorous, externally funded research program, publish scholarly work, advise and mentor graduate and undergraduate students, and support the land, space, and sea grant missions of Auburn University. Candidates must be eligible to work in the United States at the time of appointment and continue working legally for the proposed term of employment. Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills are required. Appointment rank will depend on the qualifications of the selected candidate. |
