We’re looking for innovative people to support the Environment Agency’s work on water company Drainage & Wastewater Management Plans (DWMPs). This work will achieve strategically important benefits for the environment across flood risk and water quality.
You’ll be responsible for:
- Supporting the Principal Drainage & Wastewater Planner (PDWPs) to provide consistent, technical advice, guidance and input into the development of their Drainage and Wastewater Management Plans (DWMPs).
- Support the review and response to the draft and final DWMPs and annual reviews.
- Support the building of strong relationships with local water & sewerage companies, stakeholders and operational teams to ensure the development of robust water company DWMPs.
- Escalating risks and issues and working with the other PDWPs within the team and other departments across the Environment Agency.
You will be able to work on your own initiative, maintaining effective communication with the team and customers.

The team
We are a new, small, dispersed team, in Environment & Business, working predominantly with water companies. Co-location with Area Operations and Account Management teams and easy travelling distance for water company meetings is imperative.
There will be some travel and overnight stays required as part of this role.
Experience/skills required
- Knowledge of drainage, surface water, wastewater engineering, wastewater treatment and / or sewerage systems is essential.
- Experience of partnering and building relationships, acting as a key interface with customers.
- Eye for detail and ability to examine and analyse data, presenting facts/findings in a logical/well-structured manner, readily accessed, and understood by a wide audience.
- Self-starter, motivated to achieve outcomes with an appetite to work collaboratively across teams and with our stakeholders and partners towards a common goal.
- Passion for innovation and continuous improvement.
