DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The consultant will work from mid December 2024 to July 2025 in the Hydrology, Water and Cryosphere branch of the World Meteorological Organization with the primary objective to develop the State of Global Water Resources report (SoWR) for 2024.
Under the supervision of the Scientific Officer in the HWC branch, Services Department, the consultant will have the following responsibilities and tasks:
– In line with the previous annual SoWR reports, the consultant will compile various hydrological variables for catchments around the globe. Data to be collected from WMO Members, or other available platforms and data centers and modelled data from global hydrological models;
– Perform analysis, and develop graphical representation of the hydrological data using R, Matlab or Python and GIS tools;
– Generate a draft of the SoWR for 2024, provide a written workflow or algorithm documenting the step wise procedure adapted to generate the results shown the report;
– Carry out other relevant duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education
Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or Doctorate) in Hydrology, Environmental studies, related sciences and engineering fields.
Experience
Minimum 5 years of experience required in Data analysis, working with in-situ and modelled time series data for various hydrological variables, uncertainty analysis, preparation of scientific publications, statistics.
Languages
Excellent knowledge of English (both oral and written). Knowledge of other official languages of WMO would be an advantage.
(Note: The official languages of the Organization are Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish.)

PayBand: 350-450 CHF per Day.
