 The Water Group is currently seeking to appoint a Principal Hydrogeologist for an ongoing full-time role.

The Groundwater Management and Science Team

This role is in the Groundwater Management and Science Team (the Groundwater Team), a team of about 25 technical specialists with varied responsibilities.

As an overview, the Groundwater Team is responsible for the assessment of impacts of groundwater take associated with groundwater trades, delivery of advice on state significant projects and local government integrated developments, knowledge acquisition to inform groundwater resource management, policy development and water sharing plan cycle processes, advice to water utilities and other specific programs across the agency and groundwater resource management. 

About You

The Principal Hydrogeologist role is the most senior technical hydrogeologist in the NSW Government and provides leadership and technical expertise to the strategic direction and implementation of groundwater management in NSW.

The role also provides leadership in the transfer of groundwater science into the operational management of the resource; encouraging innovation and teamwork in the delivery of sound technical products and advice; and collaboration and knowledge exchange with other agencies, research centres, universities, scientific committees and consultants to remain abreast of the evolution in groundwater science and applied and science and opportunities for contribution and collaboration.

Key knowledge and experience

  • Strong technical skills across a range of disciplines of hydrogeology
  • Strong communication, report writing and project management skills and interest in working with and establishing strong relationship across the industry and with the team “clients”
  • Experienced in managing and mentoring Hydrogeologists
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a team of technical professionals.

Essential requirements

  • A degree in Engineering or Science, relevant tertiary degree in geology, hydrogeology or similar and significant expertise in the field of Hydrogeology. Post-graduate qualifications in Hydrogeology and experience in groundwater analytics, numerical modelling and groundwater resource management.
