Position Title: Postdoctoral Researcher

Responsibilities:
The University of Louisiana at Lafayette Louisiana Watershed Flood Center (LWFC), a unit of the University’s Institute for Coastal and Water Research (ICaWR) and an affiliated center with the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, seeks a postdoctoral scholar to support recently funded National Science Foundation (NSF) research projects that focus on assessment of disproportionate impacts of hydroclimatic extremes in US gulf regions via justice-minded research and collaborative climate adaptation planning, and developing of a flood resilience framework for affected communities in the Caribbean region.  More details about the projects can be found here: https://louisiana.edu/news/58m-nsf-funded-project-tackles-impacts-gulf-climate-extremes and https://louisiana.edu/news/researchers-study-flood-resilience-caribbean-international-grant. The projects provide unique opportunities for working with interdisciplinary researchers from multiple US states and universities (University of Alabama and the NOAA-sponsored CIROH consortium, Louisiana State University, Tulane University, Tuskegee University, and Jackson State), as well as international universities from Canada (McGill University) and the UK (Imperial College and Center for Ecology and Hydrology). Reporting to the Director of LWFC, the postdoctoral researcher will play an essential role in executing research tasks on externally funded projects, including hydrologic and hydrodynamic modeling, flood risk assessment, analysis of climate extremes, and disproportionate impacts on communities and infrastructure. This is a 12-month position and is expected to start in January 2025 or sooner. The position is for 2 years with a possibility of a third year, depending on performance and project activities needed.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
-Conduct interdisciplinary research at the intersection of climate extremes, flood risk, community impacts, infrastructure resilience, and adaptation planning.
-The work will entail numerical modeling, statistical analysis, user studies, analyzing and interpreting research data, working with researchers across disciplines, and publishing research outcomes.
-Lead and manage research projects.
-Develop and implement research proposals.
-Mentor graduate and undergraduate students.
-Collaborate with social scientists and engineers.
-Stay current on the latest research in the area.
-Search pertinent scientific literature as needed.
-Additional projects and duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
-PhD degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering or related fields.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
-Inter-disciplinary graduate education across multiple fields, including engineering, planning, and socioeconomics.
-Skills and research expertise are desired in areas such as hydrologic and hydrodynamic modeling, hydroclimatic extremes, flood risk, community resilience, and stochastic and geospatial analyses.
-Proficiency in hydrologic and hydrodynamic modeling, scientific programming, GIS platforms.
-Excellent written and oral communication skills.
-Experience in writing and publishing research papers.
-Experience in presenting at professional meetings.
