As the Journeyperson Instrumentation Technician, you will be responsible for the maintenance, repair and calibration of all instrumentation including pneumatic, electronic and hydraulic instruments. Primary duties include:

  • Maintain all instrumentation ensuring that they are in good working condition and are calibrated to the required parameters.
  • Troubleshoot problems of all plant instrumentation including flow meters temperature transmitters, metering pumps, digital control loops, pneumatic control systems, and diagnostic test problems on the computer to ensure accurate control and data collection.
  • Maintain and repair pneumatic and electric operated valves.
  • Maintain instrument air quality, repair or rebuild pneumatic and electronic instruments.
  • Install instrument air tubing.
  • Maintain current record of instrumentation calibration changes.
  • Design new instrumentation loops and install upgrades to control equipment.

Qualifications 

  • A valid Journeyperson Instrumentation Certificate or equivalent interprovincial certification as recognized by Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training Board.
  • Must be eligible to obtain Confined Space Entry certification (training will be provided).
  • Knowledge in troubleshooting electronic problems, maintenance of microprocessor systems, pneumatic controls and the repair of electronic circuit boards is required.
  • A valid Class 5 Driver’s License (or provincial equivalent), with no more than 6 demerits and no current suspensions or charges pending OR; a valid Graduated Driver’s License (GDL) with no more than 4 demerits and no current suspensions or charges pending.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel and Outlook) will be considered assets.
  • Preference will be given to applicants with four years of related experience in a plant such as a refinery, gas plant, pulp and paper plant or water or a large wastewater treatment plant.
  • Preference may also be given to applicants with electrical experience and/ or Electrical courses from a recognized technical institute.

Working Conditions: Work involves exposure to all weather conditions, confined space entries, dust, noise, chemicals, hazardous and explosive gases, odours, wastewater, wet conditions and possible electric shock.

  • A security clearance will be conducted.
  • Must obtain a City of Calgary operator’s permit
  • Successful applicants must provide proof of qualifications.

Pre-employment Drug Test: An offer of employment for this position will be conditional on an applicant passing a pre-employment drug test. This test assesses for use of drugs including cannabis. Failure to pass a pre-employment drug test may prevent an applicant from being hired into any safety sensitive position for a period of up to twelve months.
