As a member of the Basins’ Project Management Office, you will be part of a small, dynamic and results-oriented team. This team operates under the Great Artesian Basin Rehabilitation Program which delivers substantial funds for on-ground works to support sustainable and efficient use of the water resources of the Great Artesian Basin.
In collaboration with the team, you will be responsible for implementing and improving contract and project management procedures. You will have the opportunity to liaise with rural and other clients in relation to funding applications and contracts. You will hold skills in departmental information, record-keeping, and reporting systems, and provide authoritative advice to the team on these.

The Role
As a Water Officer within the Basins Project Management Office, you will contribute to the Great Artesian Basin Rehabilitation Program, which supports sustainable and efficient water use. Working in a small, dynamic, and results-driven team, you will be responsible for implementing contract management procedures, assessing funding applications, and maintaining critical information systems. You will liaise with rural clients, landholders, and other stakeholders, ensuring the smooth and effective processing of contracts and payments.
This role is perfect for someone with strong organisational skills, a background in finance or procurement systems, and a keen interest in supporting Queensland’s water sustainability initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
• Implement and manage contract procedures, ensuring milestone payments and reporting requirements are met.
• Assess and process funding applications in collaboration with team members and liaise with landholders and rural industry clients.
• Provide expert advice on departmental finance, procurement, and record-keeping systems.
• Maintain and improve client and contract databases, ensuring accuracy and efficiency.
• Contribute to the continuous improvement of project procedures and documentation as part of a close-knit team.
• Build and maintain positive working relationships with clients and service providers, ensuring timely processing of payments and transactions.
• Support team initiatives and contribute to a collaborative, solutions-focused work environment.
About You
• Strong communication skills with the ability to engage clearly with diverse stakeholders, particularly in the rural sector.
• Detail-oriented and well-organised, with the ability to prioritize tasks efficiently to meet team objectives.
• Flexibility in adapting to new challenges and expectations in a fast-paced work environment.
• Experience with finance, procurement, or information systems, particularly in a government or contract management setting.
• A team player who thrives in a collaborative, goal-oriented environment.
Role Requirements
• A “C” class driver’s license is highly regarded.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Word, Outlook, and Excel, is desirable.
• Willingness to travel occasionally, which may include overnight stays.
