Offer Description
It is open competition for the award of one Research Grant (BIPD) under the European project Path4Med nº 101156867 – Demonstrating innovative pathways addressing water and soil pollution in the Mediterranean Agro-Hydro-System, under the provisions of paragraph a) of paragraph 1 of article 2 of the Statute of the Research Fellow in the wording given by Decree-Law No. 950/2019 of 16 December, under the following conditions:
Funding Sources: The project is funded by European Commission – Path4Med nº 101156867 – Demonstrating innovative pathways addressing water and soil pollution in the Mediterranean Agro-Hydro-System.
Scientific Area: Agricultural Sciences
Admission requirements: Candidates with a doctorate degree in Agricultural Sciences or related areas that was obtained in the three years prior to the date of submission of the scholarship application; and post-doctoral research must be carried out in a host entity different from the entity where the research work that led to the award of the doctorate degree was carried out.
If the degree was awarded by a foreign higher education institution, it must comply with the provisions of Decree-Law no. 66/2018, of August 16, and Ordinance no. 33/2019, of January 25, and any formalities established therein must be fulfilled until the date of hiring.
Furthermore, research activities cannot require post-doctoral experience; nor can they have a development and execution period equal to or less than three years.
The scholarship holder cannot exceed, with the conclusion of the scholarship contract in question, including possible renewals, an accumulated period of three years in this type of scholarship, consecutive or interpolated.
Preferential Conditions: Preferential conditions are: proven experience in the area of Agronomy, research projects in the area of Agricultural Sciences, project management, as well as participation in research, demonstration and dissemination activities, with high motivation to work in teams, good fluency in Portuguese and good level of English read, written and spoken.
Work plan: Collaboration on different tasks in the context of the Path4Med project, namely: “Collaboration on different project tasks. Carrying out experimental field trials to monitor and remediate pesticides and nutrients in groundwater in the Mondego river basin. Assessment of agricultural management technologies and solutions to prevent water and soil pollution originating from Mediterranean agricultural systems. Data collection, organization and database management. Treatment and integration of data and results in accordance with the project objectives. Critical analysis of the results. Preparation of reports. The work will be carried out at the Polytechnic Institute of Viseu and in experimental locations in the Mondego river basin”.
Applicable laws and regulations: Law No. 40/2004 of August 18, which approves the Statute of the Research Fellow, amended by Decree-Law No. 202/2012 of August 27, by Law No. 12/2013, of January 29, by Decree-Law No. 89/2013, of July 9 and by Decree-Law No. 950/2019 of December 16, FCT Research Grants Regulation, Available at https://www.fct.pt/financiamento/programas-de-financiamento/bolsas/ and Regulation of Research Grants of the Polytechnic Institute of Viseu, published in the Diário da República, no. 112, 2nd series, of June 9, 2020.
Workplace: The work will be developed at the facilities of the Escola Superior Agrária de Viseu, experimental sites in the Mondego river basin and may be temporarily and occasionally developed in the project’s partner entities, under the scientific guidance of Professor Doctor José Luís da Silva Pereira.
Duration of the scholarship: The scholarship will last for 12 months, possibly renewable up to the maximum period set out in article 3, no. 2 of the Research Fellow Statute, and cannot, in any case, exceed the financing of the project.
Amount of the monthly maintenance allowance: The amount of the scholarship will be 1,801.00 € according to the table of values of the stock exchanges in force fixed for this type of exchange by the FCT (https://www.fct.pt/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/Tabela-de-Valores-SMM_atualizacao-2024.pdf). The payment of the scholarship is made between the 20th and 30th of each month through transfer to the NIB of the Scholarship Holder indicated in the Contracting Process.
Selection methods: Applications will be evaluated taking into account the merit of the candidate and his resume, and there may be recourse by the jury to an interview where the communication skills and knowledge acquired with the work already carried out will be evaluated, with the respective evaluation:
A. Basic academic qualification (30%); B. Proven experience in recent research, demonstration and dissemination activities within the scientific area of the application (40%); C. Interview (30%). The three best classified in the sum of criteria A and B will be selected for the interview.
Composition of the Selection Jury:
Effective member: Professor Doctor Cristina Isabel de Vitória Pereira Amaro da Costa, Coordinator Professor of the Agrarian Higher School of Viseu
Effective member: Professor Doctor Dulcineia Maria de Sousa Ferreira Wessel, Coordinator Professor of the Agrarian Higher School of Viseu
Substitute member: Professor Doctor António Manuel dos Santos Tomás Jordão, Coordinator Professor of the Agrarian Higher School of Viseu.
Form of publicity / notification of the results: The final results of the selection process will be published in an ordered list posted in a visible and public place of the Central Services of the Polytechnic Institute of Viseu; notifications to candidates will be made by e-mail.
By decision of the jury, a scholarship of candidates may be constituted, with a validity of 18 months after the date of completion of the selection process.
The final results will always be conditioned and subject to the obligation to comply with the provisions of the Statute of the Research Fellow.
After disclosure of the draft results of the evaluation, candidates have 10 working days to comment, if they understand in accordance with the Code of Administrative Procedure (CPA). The final decision will be taken within a maximum of 15 working days after the conclusion of the prior hearing of the interested parties, of which a complaint may be lodged within 15 working days after notification.
Contract and final report templates: The contract model and the final report to be prepared by the scholarship holder and the advisor are those that are annexed to the IPV research grants regulation.
Application deadline and form of submission of applications: The competition is open in the period from 13/09/2024 to 27/09/2024, only applications being admitted within the established deadline.
Applications must be formalized, mandatorily, through e-mail to ipv_nbolseiro@sc.ipv.pt indicating the reference of the project in the subject (Path4Med nº 101156867 – BI Doctor), accompanied by the following documents, duly dated and signed:
- Declaration under commitment of honor in how the candidate will enroll until the date of contractualization in a master’s or doctoral degree in the scientific area of Agricultural Sciences or related or in course not conferring an academic degree integrated in the educational project of a Portuguese higher education institution, under the terms required as conditions of admission, or proof of said inscriptions;
- Certificate of degree and/or master for candidates who compete as enrolees in a course not conferring an academic degree integrated in the educational project of an institution of higher education in the scientific area of Agricultural Sciences with one or more R&D units;
- Detailed Curriculum Vitae, with telephone contact, e-mail and documents considered relevant by the candidate.
The selection / ranking is conditioned and will only give rise to effective hiring if the candidate has delivered, by the end of the deadlines established in this notice, all the documents necessary for hiring.
