Introduction
The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR), Division of Environmental Management’s Bureau of Drinking Water and Groundwater is accepting applications for a Compliance Specialist (Water Supply Specialist Advanced classification) to provide guidance to other department staff to investigate and enforce violations of reporting and sampling requirements
This position may be headquartered in any DNR Service Center in WI, depending on space availability and the location of the selected candidate. Remote work will be available, after the initial onboarding period. The exact amount is based on program need and supervisor discretion.

Position Summary
Compliance Specialist (Water Supply Specialist Advanced) This position is responsible for implementing parts of the Department’s public water supply program. This position functions as the lead Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA) compliance and enforcement specialist for the public drinking water program on a state-wide basis. This position ensures regulatory and policy compliance is consistent with program-wide goals and objectives. This position establishes guidance, monitors, evaluates, and ensures implementation of public drinking water compliance policies by coordinating with other regional program staff, central office staff, other staff experts, and the supervisor. This position provides compliance review of highly complex reports and applications and monitors statewide implementation of the Drinking Water System. This position provides guidance to other department staff to investigate and enforce violations of reporting and sampling requirements. This position requires continual contacts with regional staff, labs, a variety of government agencies and entities, and the public regarding public water supply issues.

Salary Information
Compliance Specialist – Advanced starting salary is between $34.00 – $41.00 / hour ($70,720.00 – $ 85,280.00) depending on qualifications. Plus, excellent benefits.
The classification is Water Supply Specialist – Advanced which is in schedule-range 15 – 03. Pay on appointment will follow the provisions of the State of Wisconsin Compensation Plan.

Remote Work: Based on an assessment of the goals and work activities, this position may be eligible for remote work. Remote work approval is based on individual circumstances and is subject to supervisor approval and DNR telework policies. Approval is subject to change without notice based on business needs.

Travel: Travel statewide for compliance meetings and public water program implementation is occasionally required. Some telework may be available for this position.
Qualifications
Minimally qualified candidates will have each of the following qualifications:
- Work experience, and/or specialized training in a science or human health related field (such as geology, chemistry, biology, public health, conservation, environmental science, natural resources, freshwater science, or similar field).
- Work experience, or training in an academic environment, in analyzing sampling data, analyzing reports, interpreting results, and/or regulatory compliance.
- Experience in preparing and reviewing technical responses and communicating complex technical topics to a variety of audiences both verbally and through written materials (e.g., compliance assistance, public notice requirements…etc.).
- Experience with collaborating with wide range of stakeholders and partners, such as: the general public, businesses, contractors, consultants, laboratories, government laboratories, government agencies, etc.
In addition, highly qualified candidates will have two or more of the following qualifications:
- Related experience with drinking water systems compliance, including but not limited to monitoring requirements, violations, and/or primary enforcement measures.
- Developing or revising regulatory policies or standards.
- Training others on a topic of expertise and/or leading a team or group.
- Experience leading on the correction of water contamination issues and communicating proper resolutions.
- Relevant work experience in a science-related organization (i.e., non-profit organization, nature center, academic institution, consulting firm, etc.) or with any science related local, state or federal government organizations.
