The Biodiversity Conservation and Science group is currently seeking to appoint a temporary Senior Water Floodplains & Coast Officer (Waterway Health) in the Greater Sydney, Regional Delivery, Water Floodplains & Coast team.
The successful applicant will work in collaboration with other team members and matter experts from across the Department to drive delivery of integrated water cycle management and waterway health in the Greater Sydney region. They will contribute to effective regional delivery of water quality and waterway health programs by collaborating with councils and other stakeholders to provide strategic and technical input and capacity building. They will also contribute technical and policy advice to government and councils, review technical elements of grant-assisted projects, and monitor and report on their progress.
About the role
Key accountabilities of the Role include:
- Provide specialist advice on environmental planning and assessment matters referred to Biodiversity, Conservation and Science (BCS) and contribute to Branch and Region-wide problem solving as required.
- Promote and implement water management policies and guidelines with key stakeholders, and high-level support to BCS staff and external stakeholders on water management and waterway health in the Greater Sydney region.
- Maintain a high level of technical expertise in water management, relevant technology and translating this into high quality advice and providing timely and effective advice on water cycle and waterway health objectives and outcomes in consideration of natural processes, hazards and risks.
- Liaise with and provide technical advice to councils, their advisory committees and other stakeholders in preparing and implementing relevant studies and strategies in the Greater Sydney region.
- Assist in the development and review of strategic operational policy relating to water management and implement procedures and best management practice to ensure technical and policy advice is appropriately applied.
- Assist Councils in applying for funds and assess applications for funding.
- Maintain accurate records for grant-assisted projects; and monitor and report on progress against project milestones as required.
About You
Key knowledge and experience:
- Extensive knowledge and experience of stormwater quality and quantity, water cycle management, water sensitive urban design, and waterway health.
- Comprehensive knowledge of water management policy and practice, including knowledge of relevant legislation and knowledge of regional land-use planning.
- Detailed knowledge and experience in the application of hydrological, hydraulic and water quality models.
Essential requirements:
- Degree level tertiary qualifications in engineering, environmental science, natural resource management, or related discipline.
- Current Class C (minimum) NSW Driver Licence or equivalent.
