About WASH Institute

Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Institute (WASH Institute), established in 2008, is a non-profit organization, dedicated to providing practical solutions to tackle a wide range of water, sanitation, hygiene and environmental issues in India and the neighbouring countries. WASH Institute aims to build the capacities of the sector through programs that provide a) training and academic courses, b) technical advisory and consultancy services, and c) grassroots community WASH programs.

WASH Institute has been conducting extensive training programs for government functionaries, private sector professionals, NGOs, and other practitioners with the objective of effective WASH implementation across the country. In addition, our academic campus offers Diploma and Masters level courses in sanitation, under affiliation with a leading university.

We are a multi-disciplinary team that tackle complex multi-faceted problems of behaviour change, quality of service, and sustainability of WASH interventions. Currently, we are looking for experienced professionals to work with us towards our visions of “a world where all the communities have access to safe, protected and sustainable drinking water and sanitation services, with improved hygiene practices”.

Project Title: “Integrated Climate Resilient WASH Project, Dindigul, Tamil Nadu”

Timeframe: 3 Years (1st October 2024 – 30th September 2027)

Position : Senior Project Engineer

Number of vacancy: 01

Location: Dindigul

Desired Qualification and Experience:
At least 5-7 years of experience in infrastructure project management, with a strong focus on sanitation or water-related projects.

Type of employment: Contract

Duration of contract: Project Specific

Remuneration: As per industrial standards and experience

Preferred Qualifications and Experience:
• A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related field.
• Relevant work experience with government / semi-government / autonomous organizations / NGOs will be desirable.
• Proven track record in managing all phases of engineering design and implementation, from concept to completion.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD or similar design software for preparing technical drawings.
• Deep understanding of the design concepts of physico-chemical, biological, and advanced treatment systems.
• Excellent communication and Problem-solving skills to address unforeseen challenges during project implementation.

Key Roles and Responsibilities

• Technical Design and Planning: Developing technical designs and piloting innovative models for sanitation, Solid &liquid waste treatment to test its feasibility and scalability.
• Prepare comprehensive drawings and specifications for all project components, including sanitation, solid & liquid waste management infrastructures.
• Support efforts to develop, identify, and provide solutions to implement innovations in sanitation technology and assist in developing/ validating DPRs, technical specifications and standards, especially around non-sewered solution, Faecal Sludge Management, and Greywater Management
• To collect and analyse data. Responsible for review and assessment of current system related to wastewater and waste management aspects.
• Providing Technical Assistance and assistance in research on cost effective eco-friendly disposal system that fits for the project.
• To support the project team in attending the meetings, discussions, stakeholder consultation workshops and presentations.
• Liaising with government agencies, non-governmental organizations, and community leaders to ensure project alignment with local needs and regulations.
• Project Coordination – Oversee the execution of hardware works, ensuring that construction and installation are completed on time, within budget, and according to design specifications.
• Conduct time to time site inspections to monitor progress, assess quality, and identify any deviations from the design plan and provide necessary support to technical team.
• Implement corrective measures as needed to maintain project integrity and ensure compliance with all technical standards.
• Prepare detailed project documentation, including design plans, progress reports, and final as-built drawings.
• Any other work assigned by the management related to projects.
