Job Description

This advanced professional position is responsible for performance of oversight and management assistance of remedial actions at Superfund sites, in addition to site investigations of environmental contamination for evaluation through the Hazard Ranking System (HRS) to determine Superfund eligibility. All work is performed in accordance with the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA), commonly known as “Superfund” and the National Contingency Plan (NCP).

Duties

– Provide expertise in highly specialized technical fields of hydrology, geology, chemistry, and engineering for investigation of groundwater contamination sites
– Implement cleanup of Superfund sites in compliance with appropriate state and federal regulations
– Develop, conduct, and report on environmental investigations to evaluate risks to human health and the environment posed by contamination
– Review and comment on work plans and reports
– Participate in the remedial action selection process and public involvement events

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture Science, Hydrology, Geology, Environmental Science, Water Resources, Watershed Management, Physics, Natural Science, Physical Science, Life Science, Biology, Chemistry, Geography, Forestry/Forest Science, Conservation Science, Wildlife Science Emergency Management or Engineering and two (2) years of relevant experience. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling six (6) years may substitute for the required education and experience. Employment Requirements

Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Driver’s License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive a Defensive Driving Course certificate as a condition of continued employment.

Working Conditions

Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Some sitting, standing, bending, and reaching may be required. Field work up to 30% of the time is required along with exposure to seasonal weather conditions and potentially hazardous and/or radioactive waste.
