DESCRIPTION
A successful candidate will oversee the operation and maintenance of the water supply, water treatment, legionella compliance, rainwater harvesting, discharge network and drainage systems for Data Centers (DC) in Amazon Web Services (AWS) Cloud regions. You are a customer obsessed leader that will play an integral part in planning and implementation of the facility network infrastructure including new build handover documentation, infrastructure retrofits, and on-site Water positive program initiatives to reduce consumption. Partnering with internal customers and internal/external stakeholders to engage as a team and ensure a timely handover will be part of your critical tasks. The role will positively contribute to the implementation of safety procedures to safeguard operator safety (confidence spaces, chemical handling, water treatment plant safety systems and calibrations).
The role requires a motivated, self-managed individual who demonstrates initiative and proactively seeks solutions to problems while striving for operational excellence. The role will continue to build upon existing processes to deliver improved business impact in terms of risk mitigation and reduced OPEX. The individual needs a strong willingness to develop learn new processes and adapt to rapidly changing operational scenarios with conflicting priorities. The successful candidate will be part of the Water team but will strongly align with the Engineering and Facilities team, Critical Project Implementation and Field Engineering, Industrial Hygiene and Environmental teams across the EMEA region. Regional ownership and reporting to Cluster managers, alongside the Engineering Operations team whilst working together to improve water management for AWS.

Key job responsibilities
• You will drive continuous improvement efforts on infrastructure through standardization of procedures and policies, while delivering performance against agreed metrics
• You will collaborate effectively with internal & external stakeholders to deliver operational excellence for all AWS customers
• You will be responsible for ensuring that the preventive maintenance of site-critical facility infrastructure is planned and executed to the highest standards, in accordance to AWS procedures
• You will ensure organizational capability to react & respond appropriately to any potential customer-impacting event on any component of water infrastructure.
• You will work with internal and external teams to successfully manage the lifecycle of water improvement projects, and act as owner in delivering on project objectives and targets. Projects may span organizations or geographies in support of business objectives.
• You will proactively engage stakeholder teams to identify optimization opportunities on water consumption or discharge requirements. Support REE deep dives on RCA of compliance failures and rectification works required for improvement.
• You will promptly and accurately communicate project status, risk analysis and risk mitigation plans. Effectively answer project questions in detail, and regularly produce clear and concise summaries for the project to leadership/management team.
• You will identify and lead process improvement initiatives that improve the Engineering and cross-teams’ efficiencies, optimizing the teams’ value and delivery. Through collaboration, generate high-quality, cost-effective solutions in compressed periods of time.
A day in the life
• You will create reporting to DCEO and regional leadership water related metrics to drive visibility and improvement (DCOEw, water consumption, discharge compliance) via a QBR. Provide secondary data visibility for external third-party reporting under Water Positive, EU legislation and national reporting needs under permits and/or ESG needs.
• Draft, update & maintain method statements, standard operating procedures, emergency response procedures, preventive maintenance programs, and all technical documentation pertaining to water management on site.
• Perform equipment/system installation, throughput and safety qualifications. Simplify, optimize, remove bottlenecks and provide feedback while resolving difficult system problems or technical deficiencies.
About the team
Water Operations focuses on the mechanical, electrical and controls systems that support water within our data center critical environments. The Water Operations role must be able to build and lead high performing teams across the EMEA region to support Engineering Operations, understand and support their day to day operations and/or 3rd party specialist vendors while at the same time having the technical capability and curiosity to dive deep into any given challenges as needed. As a water operational owner in Amazon you can innovate to solve these issues and help drive operations excellence in all areas for water. You will have the ability to refine and develop processes to optimize operational excellence in every aspect of your role. You must also have a passion for technology along with a desire to achieve best-in-the-world operational performance.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
• Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or other STEM field
• 7+ years of experience as a Project Engineer, Process Engineer, Project Manager, Manufacturing Engineer, or related occupation in the water operation field.
• 4+ years of demonstrated experience managing the lifecycle of cross-functional projects, implementing automated equipment and/or integrated systems
• 4+ years of demonstrated experience Experience with CAD software (AutoCAD, REVIT, BIM 360, etc.)
• 5+ years of demonstrated experience Experience in Operations and Maintenance requirements for safe water supplies (disinfection, legionella control)
• 3+ years of demonstrated experience with Change Management Systems (CMS) and Ticket Systems (PPM).
• Broad operational knowledge and experience with and familiarity with electrical and mechanical equipment.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Master’s degree in Engineering, Operations, Business Administration, or a related STEM field
• 3+ years of demonstrated commercial experience
• 3+ years of demonstrated experience in water treatment and operation and maintenance
• Experience with Six Sigma and/or Lean Manufacturing
• Experience with Microsoft Project, Smartsheet programs
