Researcher: Nano-Hybrid Systems Coupled with Photocatalytic Mechanisms for the Treatment of Olive Mill Wastewater and Recovery of High-Value Compounds via EURAXESS

Università degli Studi di Trieste

Trieste, Italy 🇮🇹

Offer Description

The decontamination of industrial wastewater represents a considerable economic and environmental challenge. This project envisions utilizing low-cost local clays to develop sustainable technologies aimed at removing pollutants through partial sustainable photodegradation, harnessing sunlight as an energy source, and recovering high-value substances from liquid effluents derived from agricultural and industrial activities. Particular attention will be devoted to wastewater resulting from olive milling processes. These effluents contain undesirable phenolic compounds that can adversely affect the agricultural environment and water quality. The primary objective is to employ modified local clays to eliminate pollutants and recover valuable substances, including precious polyphenolic compounds. This project aspires to reduce remediation costs for local enterprises, promote sustainable resource management, and encourage adherence to environmental regulations
