In the Pacific we work in Cook Islands, Fiji, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, Nauru, Niue, Palau, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tokelau, Tonga, Tuvalu, Vanuatu: These 14 Pacific island countries are home to 2.3 million people, including 1.2 million children and youth, living on more than 660 islands and atolls stretching across 17.2 million square kilometers of the Pacific Ocean, an area comparable to the combined size of the United States of America and Canada. Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, Solomon Islands, and Tuvalu are classified as Fragile States according to World Bank/OECD criteria.

UNICEF Pacific Multi-Country Office WASH programme supports implementation of climate resilient WASH programme across Pacific Island countries and territories on delivering community WASH programme, WASH in institutions, Emergency preparedness and response with focus on systems strengthening and delivery of quality and climate resilient WASH services.

The WASH Manager provides technical and managerial support to deliver the WASH programme while providing, backstopping for the Chief of WASH.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

Minimum requirements:

Education: 

  • An advanced university degree in one of the following fields is required: public health, social sciences, behavior change communication, civil engineering sanitary engineering, water supply engineering, hydrogeology, environmental science/engineering, or another relevant technical field.
  • Additional relevant post-graduate courses that complement/supplement the main degree are required.

Work Experience:

  • A minimum of eight years of progressively responsible professional experience in WASH-related programmes in developing countries is required, of which at least two years must be in international settings.
  • Work experience in Small Island Developing States with unique operating environment/maritime logistics is extremely relevant.
  • Relevant work experience in a UN system organization or Pacific regional organization is considered as an asset.
  • Proven work experience on managing multiple complex programmes in remote and low-capacity setting is essential.
  • At least one year of technical experience in climate resilient WASH programming is essential.
  • At least one year of experience in directly supervising staff and managing a team is required.
  • Proven experience in both development and humanitarian work is required. 
  • Emergency experience particularly in climate related disaster settings an advantage.

Language Requirements: 

  • Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) or a local language is an asset.

Appointments may also be subject to inoculation (vaccination) requirements, including against SARS-CoV-2 (Covid). Should you be selected for a position with UNICEF, you either must be inoculated as required or receive a medical exemption from the relevant department of the UN. Otherwise, the selection will be canceled.
