Are you seeking a rewarding, high profile executive role in a complex and evolving sector, with the opportunity to make a real and positive difference to the lives of all South Australians and the broader environment and economy? If so, this job is for you!
The Department for Environment and Water (DEW) invests in South Australia’s future economic, environmental, and social prosperity and well-being. Aiming to be a flexible, responsive, and influential adviser to Government, DEW delivers high quality policy and programs across a diverse range of portfolios. Critical to its success is the Water and River Murray Division, which drives priorities with a focus on the use, management and conservation of the state’s water resources. An opportunity now exists to lead the division and deliver water related policies, strategies, and programs to underpin the achievement of the South Australian Government’s economic, environmental and social agendas.
The Executive Director, Water and River Murray, is a member of the department’s executive team and actively supports the Chief Executive through the provision of sensitive advice and counsel. You will provide high level strategic leadership to the Water and River Murray Division, the agency and the SA Public Sector to ensure the delivery of high-quality advice, strategy, regulatory and operational outcomes. Overseeing a diverse division of approximately 300 employees, you will drive high performance and seek to balance economic, environmental and social considerations to achieve the best possible outcomes for South Australia. Stakeholder management will be at the forefront of this role, including building strategic partnerships with a diverse range of industry, community, non-government, and government stakeholders. This will include representing South Australia at relevant national and international forums and committees.
With demonstrated experience and knowledge in the water sector and tertiary qualifications related to Natural Resource Management, business management, engineering, law or other relevant disciplines, you will be a contemporary leader with a people first approach to ensure that the division is operating to a high standard. Sound knowledge of the machinery of government with the ability to influence across senior levels is essential, as is proven success in leading the delivery of strategic and operational outcomes in a dynamic and diverse environment.
The ability to build and maintain strong relationships with media, industry and other key stakeholders is critical, as is a high-level understanding and knowledge of the relevant legislative frameworks and political environments. Prior experience in water policy development and science management will be highly desirable.
