About the opportunity
We are seeking to appoint a Research Fellow in Irrigation Science in the Tasmanian Institute of Agriculture (TIA) which is part of the College of Sciences and Engineering.
The role will expand, develop and implement irrigation research on dairy, grazing, rotation and perennial horticultural crops across Tasmania’s premium growing regions. We are looking to appoint an outstanding research-focused early career researcher (Academic Level A) who will be supported to build their own research portfolio and provide leadership in their area of research.
What you’ll do:
- Undertake high-quality research of national and increasingly of international standing.
- Develop and implement TIA’s initiatives for research in irrigation and soil science.
- Work closely with colleagues both within TIA, the Tasmanian Farm innovation Hub and UTAS, and with external stakeholders.
- Participate in awareness raising and extension activities that lead to the adoption of research outcomes .
- Contribute to the development and maintenance of productive and effective links both inside the University, and externally.
What we’re looking for:
- A PhD or equivalent in a relevant field.
- A knowledge of soil hydrology, irrigation science, and / or agricultural technology.
- Experience and / or ability to conduct field work, including soil sampling and measurement
- Experience with laboratory and field measurement of soil hydraulic properties
- A good record of, and continuing commitment to, research that has achieved national recognition.
- Evidence of contributing to building and maintaining effective and productive collaborations with industry, farmers and other researchers and/or research teams.
Salary details
Appointment to this role will be at Academic Level A and will have a total remuneration package of up to $121,737 comprising base salary within the range of $80,462 to $104,049 plus 17% superannuation.
