Job description:

Ensure Tasmania’s water monitoring network provides accurate water information to inform water resource management, planning and allocation decisions.

About the role

As Section Head, you will play a crucial role in leading a team of specialists and overseeing the physical, financial, and information resources of the Water Monitoring Section. Your core duties will include:

  • Provide high-level strategic hydrographic advice on water resource monitoring in Tasmania.
  • Lead the design and implementation of water monitoring technology.
  • Undertake workplace health and safety activities.
  • Plan, implement, and manage major projects associated with the installation, upgrade, and refurbishment of monitoring stations.
  • Represent the Department on state and national working groups and committees.

Hours per fortnight

73.50 hours per fortnight (minimum 58.80 hours, by negotiation).

Desirable requirements

  • A current motor vehicle drivers’ licence.
  • Relevant studies in hydrometrics, water quality and water monitoring systems.
  • At least 5 years’ experience in the collection, collation, storage, analysis, and reporting of water monitoring information.
  • A current Workplace Level 2 First Aid Certificate.
  • Relevant courses or training in water safety.
  • Four-wheel drive certification.
