Local recruitment: Scientist: Spatial Hydrologist

The INR is seeking a scientist / senior scientist skilled in hydrology specialising in the application of hydrological and/or hydraulic modelling tools and analysis including terrestrial and freshwater aquatic ecosystems. Applicants should have a minimum of an MSc in Hydrology, GIS, Ecology, Geography, Environmental Engineering, or cognate qualification, and at least 2 years of professional / applied research experience.
The position requires the following expertise / skill-sets / attributes:
• Evidence of experience in the application of environmental hydrological modelling tools (e.g. ACRU, SWAT, HEC-RAS, TOPKAPI, and RS-EO);
• Experience in the application of modelling tools to analyse catchment dynamics including land cover, water flows, water quality, erosion and sedimentation and impacts on ecosystem functioning;
• Data acquisition, management, and analysis including modelled, remote sensed and field-derived data;
• Ability to conduct / guide field surveys and data collection to support model development and validation;
• Willingness to work in multi-disciplinary teams;
• Ability to communicate, report and present information;
• Willingness to develop proposals and secure project funding;
• The ability to work independently with an interest in personal and professional growth;
• Willingness to travel, with a valid Driver’s licence and driving experience;
The following evidence/attributes will be an added advantage:
• Experience applying hydrological / hydraulic modelling tools at catchment and regional scales;
• Evidence of applying GIS and remote sensing tools
• Competence in data programming languages
