We are currently seeking a motivated Senior Spatial Analyst to join our team and help implement several innovative and cutting-edge projects at the interface of ecology, hydrology, human impacts on the environment, and the conservation of nature.

Most importantly, the candidate will be deeply involved in developing the next generation of the EU-Hydro product suite, commissioned by the European Environmental Agency (EEA). EU-Hydro provides detailed insights into water resources in Europe and will support a wide range of applications within the hydrological domain. The candidate will take up a leading role within Confluvio, contributing significantly to the project’s success through both management and hands-on tasks, such as delivering and using scripts and developing methods. Additionally, the candidate will liaise with other groups within the consortium to ensure effective collaboration and project integration.

Specific tasks include:

  • Project management, including daily task management and team management of 1-2 Junior team members. Note that projects partners operate in European time zone; depending on time zone overlap between working hours must be achieved at least partially.
  • Using operational tools and existing workflows to derive EU-Hydro data from elevation tiles, including semi-automatic and manual correction processes
  • Develop customized user-friendly GIS tools and scripts as needed, including their documentation
  • Prepare GIS training materials and deliver GIS training sessions to customers as needed
  • Create communication materials (maps, figures, graphs, tables, PowerPoint slides, online materials) as needed
  • Support or lead the creation of scientific/technical documentations of tools and datasets, including scientific papers, as needed
  • Contribute to and/or manage the creation of project reports as needed

Working remotely, the successful candidate will be expected to embrace this job with a positive attitude, attention to detail, and willingness to learn new skills. This position will provide a unique opportunity for the candidate to work on a high-profile project as part of a consortium.

 Requirements:

  • Canadian citizen, permanent resident or person having refugee status in Canada. A work permit for Canada for at least one year is also acceptable.
  • 5 year of work experience analyzing and processing hydrological data layers using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) or similar tools

Details of position:

  • Pay Rate: CAD $5500-7500 gross monthly payment (depending on experience), plus 4% vacation pay paid out monthly
  • Hours of Work: 5 hours/week
  • Work Location: Canada, home office
  • Anticipated Start Date: ASAP, September 2024
  • Contract length: 12 months, with possibility of extension

Essential Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Hydrology, Geography, Geoinformation Sciences, or related fields
  • Portfolio demonstrating advanced knowledge of Geographic Information Systems (GIS), and databases relevant for processing hydrological data layers
  • Experience in scripting for geospatial analysis and tool development required
  • Competent working with ArcGIS Pro
  • Excellent verbal and written English communication skills (French an asset)
  • Excellent information organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work both independently and as a supportive member of the Confluvio team

Working conditions:

The candidate will work remotely and full-time, under the direct joint supervision of Confluvio staff.
