About the Agency
The NSW Reconstruction Authority (the Authority) is a statutory corporation within the Planning & Environment cluster. The Authority will improve how NSW plans for disasters and ensure that we recover from them faster.
To reduce the severity and impacts of disasters, the Authority will complete critical planning and preparation with communities, businesses and government. When disaster does strike, we will get recovery started swiftly and coordinate reconstruction efforts across agencies, communities and other stakeholders.
About the role
The Flood and Coastal Risk Specialist provides technical analysis and guidance to support disaster adaptation planning across NSW. This role provides subject matter expertise on a wide range of projects, including ensuring that strategic planning and policy decisions are informed by accurate flood and coastal risk management data. The role supports the development of new technical methodologies or approaches drawing on contemporary research and practice.

About you
The successful candidate will have experience in environmental science, coastal geography or geomorphology, flood engineering, or a related field to be able to provide advice and recommendations that inform strategic planning and programs of work. You will have expert project management experience to cover all aspects of project planning and evaluation, managing budgets and resources and a desire to drive high-quality project deliverables. You will possess high level collaboration and engagement skills to build rapport with a range of stakeholders from both technical and non-technical backgrounds including the ability to convey complex concepts to various audiences.
The successful candidate must also be able to demonstrate the following key knowledge and experience:
- Extensive experience, knowledge and skills in assessing and managing flood and coastal risks
- Highly skilled in communicating, both orally and in writing, for technical and non-technical audiences
- Project management experience in planning and delivering projects relating to flood and coastal risks
- Collaboration and engagement skills including the ability to work with a wide range of stakeholders.
In addition to this, you will also meet the following essential requirements:
- Tertiary qualifications in environmental science, coastal geomorphology, geography, geoscience, hydrology, hydraulic modelling, engineering or equivalent and/or extensive experience in a relevant technical field.
